Videos from the Best Visual Effects Winners of the Last Decade

A couple of days ago, we showed you a video clip featuring 100 years of special effects.  It’s amazing how much visual effects have improved over the years, although aside from a few giant jumps, I think they’ve plateaued out just a tad.  I mean, I haven’t seen anything in the past couple of years that would have really wowed me, say, four years ago.  Maybe Avatar will change that.

  1. I watched bits of each clip but had to watch the Return of the King scene from beginning to end. Is there any other scene in movie geekdom that is as awesome as that?!

  2. @Maritimer: No, there really isn’t. Theoden hitting tapping his sword on the lances as he rides by is one of the best touches to that scene. It really helps build the anticipation. I remember hearing once that it was just an idea the actor had while filming. If that’s true, it makes the scene that much better.

    Funny you guys say that, because as I was compiling these clips, I thought to myself, “man, I really want to watch the Return of the King right now.” Not for the other movies, just ROTK.

  6. What, no Aslan? That had to be the most beautiful, realistic looking talking animal ever. Aslan looked like a real lion, and yet, he spoke and had facial expressions without it looking fake or cartoon-y.
