Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is Releasing March 25th

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands can be a confusing title for some. Without anyone knowing any better, one would assume that this game would be DLC. This is because Wonderlands is basically a follow-up from the initial Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep expansion from the latest Borderlands title. In any case, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is indeed a full-blown title that’s set in a fantastical realm with Tiny Tina overlooking the land. She has full control over it and can change things on a whim. In contrast to the previous Borderlands titles, this new game will let players actually create their own character from scratch. As opposed to being forced to select from a roster of characters to being part of a story. Much in a standard RPG fashion, a player’s character can be associated with a particular class complete with assorted perks and stats.

This new title is certainly a far cry from the famous looter-shooter that it spawned from. However, there are no qualms for trying something new within an established franchise. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will still be played through a first-person perspective just like the other games, but it will also come with a bit more freedom. Players will be able to explore this game via an overworld, for instance. Additionally, this game will still have the randomly generated loot system that the Borderlands games are known for. Even though this new title might have a different aesthetic, the root gameplay is going to remain intact. There will be a robust list of whacky weapons and firearms to gather up and use against the enemy. On top of this, Wonderlands will also be fully embracing the new fantasy setting with players being able to dabble in the art of magic. Summoning chaos and transformation are only a few of the new magical abilities that players will be able to use in this upcoming adventure.

Fantastical Funk

The way the game will unfold is that Tiny Tina herself will be working as the “Dungeon Master” that’s manipulating the overworld. All manners of random and strange occurrences can happen whenever and however she feels like. Needless to say, the whimsical nature of the Borderlands games remains intact for this installment. Overgrown fungus forests, forboding catacombs, crooked mountains, and strange dungeons can all be explored. There will be a total of six different classes that players can choose from at the start of the game. The Brr-Zerkers, Stabbomancers, Spellshot, Clawbringer, Sporewarden, and Graveborn. Basically, these classes are similar to; Heavy, Knight, Mage, Melee, Archer, and Necromancer classes, respectively. Of course, they all will come with their Borderlands twist with a comic bookish design.

Naturally, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will also be riddled with witty dialogue and outlandish enemies. This game will have random events to keep players on their toes as well as a slew of side-quests. Other places that players will be able to check out will be Tangledrift and Sanfang Oasis. The former is a city that rests on a beanstalk that has grown immensely in size. The latter is a paradise set in the heart of a desert that is populated with snake-like beings called “The Coiled.” There is no question that this game will be taking established fairy tale lore and painting it into a Borderlands interpretation of it. As opposed to a unique fantasy setting to call their own. In any case, there is nothing wrong with that, because classic yarns about far-off lands have remained in the imaginations of people or a reason.

Hoarderlands

As to be expected, the main objective with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will be collecting loot and experimenting with all the different combinations of weapons it offers. Additionally, there will also be a gamut of armor to find and equip with this game. Players will be able to fully construct their character to both look and function the way they best see fit. All within the guidelines of their chosen class, of course. The newest gameplay element in this installment will be with the melee weapons. This is the first time this has been put into a Borderlands title, and it’ll definitely bring in a new take with the combat. Coupled with the magical abilities, there will be a multitude of ways to decimate enemies in this title. Generally, the spells will operate like the “grenades” did in the previous titles. They will each come with cooldown periods, which can also be adjusted through upgrades.

The story is generally unknown, but this game will very much play like a “Dungeons and Dragons” board game with its overworld motif and rulebook. From what the trailer showed, the gameplay appears to be tight, colorful, and smooth. What is established is that the main villain in the story will be Dragon Lord. Thusly, there will be returning characters along with new ones. Torque, Frette, and Valentine will be showing up for Tiny Tina’s party. There will most likely be things happening that won’t have any rhyme or reason. In all honesty, this is what will make this game fun. The sheer random chaos and silly humor will breathe new life into an otherwise overused genre of fantasy. There may be games out there that delve into dungeon-crawling, but very few entail bringing in a shotgun into the mix. There is certainly a new spin on the fairy tale sub-genre and it has the potential to offer copious hours of gameplay.

A Twist of Tina

The development has taken a while, but it is finally releasing this month. There will be no doubt that fans of Borderlands will get a kick out of this new stand-alone adventure. There is a lot to look forward to and even if someone hasn’t played a Borderlands title before, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a solid place to start. One doesn’t really need to be well-versed with the game’s story to enjoy this. Rather, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is all about the raw gameplay. This game will be releasing March 25th for the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
