The Bat Man of Shanghai
httpv://youtu.be/VgywNpVagdM
I guess Cartoon Network is doing something with DC where animators are making little shorts set in the universe. This one is called “Bat Man of Shanghai ” and is an interpretation of what Batman and his cohorts may have looked like in that area in the 1930s.
Catwoman is wicked cool, but Bane doesn’t seem to be all that much different. Batman himself shows up in an amazing transformation, but doesn’t look ALL that different from his usual self. I think the concept might be cooler than the execution in the end, but it’s still worth a watch. Check it out above.
Amazing find! I wish there was an entire season of this!
I hate this style of anime with a passion.
I have literally zero desire to watch that video after reading your description. If you’re going to post something on your site for people to watch, you may want to avoid telling us up front that it sucks and you don’t particularly like it. Forgive me if that’s not what you were hinting at, but that is most definitely the feeling I got from reading your description.
@Bad Acid Agreed. That style of animation does nothing for me. Seems too stiff.
I think you’re all crazy and it’s awesome and very impressive animation. The style is something of it’s own … if I had to comment on anything it’d be that Bane doesn’t quite fit 1930’s as the other two do. Granted Batman could look a little more the part but I think it’s still an awesome take.
The glow-sticks threw me a bit too.
@Lucas, yea the glow stick things were a bit weird.
@GrandWazoo, I think you’re being a bit critical. I didn’t have any issues with the description at all.
What specifically don’t you guys like about the animation style? I think its fine, but I’m an anime dork. I agree that its a bit choppy, almost like low frame-rate, and not super fluid. Is that the issue? or is it just too japanese in style for some people’s tastes?
It’s a problem that plagues most anime:
Over-exaggerated emoting (characters constantly use shouts, grunts, sighing). Gets annoying fast.
Main characters are untouchable against hordes of nameless faces. That got old in the 80s.
The animation itself is only a few moving frames with motion lines drawn in to make it seem transition-y. I can’t count how many anime examples I’ve seen do this, but it is so lazy.
that was amzing. loved Catwoman very buitifal. and the animation was very cool to whatch i wish this was its on sieries
“I think the concept might be cooler than the execution in the end, but it’s still worth a watch.”
Replace “watch” with “read”, and you’re describing the problem with most alternate reality interpretations of comic book super heroes. Back when Elsewords was still a thing at DC, there were lots of really great concepts mated to really terrible stories. The same is true of Marvel’s What If comics.
Can you guys stop bitching and petition CN to make the show?
We haven’t had any decent fighting shows in years
