Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars Episode VII Pitch on Parks and Recreation
On tonight’s episode of Parks and Recreation, there’s a city council meeting that gets interrupted by a citizen fillibuster for some reason or another. The citizen in question is Patton Oswalt, who seems to be everywhere these days, and the producers told him to talk about whatever he wanted for a long, long time.
What follows is eight minutes of a completely improvised pitch for Star Wars Episode VII. You really can talk about anything during those things. Since Oswalt is such a huge geek I thought it might actually be a real pitch, but once he brought in The Avengers and Clash of the Titans for a three franchise crossover, it seems it’s something of a farce.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not awesome. If this really was all made up on the spot, that’s pretty damn impressive, despite it being rambling nonsense. Watch above, and see how much they cut it down for the episode tonight.

Have you ever seen those words Paul? Do you know how it feels to see them?

Thanks for that link. That speech went places I wasn’t expecting. Since the Star Wars I grew up with were Jedi Knight 2 and 3, I’d love to see Kyle Katarn somewhere in episode 7.
By the way, do any of you get overwhelmed by rage when you get hit in the face with copyright?
Haha. That was great. How did no one in the audience behind him not lose it and start laughing?
There are a couple times the guy sitting next to the redhead, front row almost loses it but you’re right that is just a stellar job out of those extras.
My favorite non-Oswalt moment is when all the councilors get up to leave, Jamm is *just* about to walk out the door and then stops and comes back to hear more about Leia and Lando.
This doesn’t really do much for me, but it’s not really made for me so it’s fine. I do love keeping an eye on the stone-faced extras behind him, though. And the bit where Poehler dropped in the “first name I recognized” line.
