Movie Recommendation of the Week: Campus Man

I have to admit it.  I’ve really gone into my bag of tricks for this one.   Talk about an unknown movie from the 80s that everyone has to see.  Campus Man is an absolutely terrible movie but I feel like if I hadn’t seen it my life simply wouldn’t be complete.   Anyway, rather than spare you the boredom, here’s a synopsis:

Todd Barret is an aspiring businessman. He’s got what it takes, but what he doesn’t have is enough money to stay in college. So he cooks up a plan to make the first ever all male sports calendar. He eventually convinces Cactus Jack, a very shadowy and tough loan shark, to give him enough money to make the deal. Todd makes enough to pay for his education, but what about the money he owes Cactus Jack?

Horrible plot, even worse acting, and a Morgan Fairchild role to boot!   Trust me kids, see this movie on a rainy day.  It’s that bad.   Trailer after the jump….

One thing I do like here is the background music.   Future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades!

  1. I was in high school when this movie originally came out, and I was still in high school when I eventually saw it on HBO the year after what I assume was a short-lived theatrical run.

I don’t know what made it so watchable, but I know I’ve seen the movie all the way through at least six or seven times.

And when John Dye died last year, I didn’t think ‘oh, the guy from ‘Touched By An Angel’ or anything like that. I thought ‘Oh no, Todd Barrett just died.’

It is, very probably, my second-favorite Arizona-based movie of the 1980s (“Can’t Buy Me Love” being securely ensconced in the #1 spot).
