Movie Recommendation of the Week: An Officer and a Gentleman
Once in a while I have to make a recommendation of a movie I saw from my youth simply because I think that the new generation of young adults should be aware of such classics. In fact I’m willing to bet most high school kids as well as college students haven’t even heard of An Officer and a Gentleman. In case you don’t know this movie it’s about a young man who must complete his work at a Navy Flight school to become an aviator, with the help of a tough gunnery sergeant and his new girlfriend.
While that sentence doesn’t nearly do the movie justice as least you get a feel for what it’s about. The movie stars Richard Gere and Louis Gossett Jr. who actually won an Oscar for his amazing drill sergeant performance. And if you don’t know this movie is famous for the line “I got no place else to go!”
Debra Winger is the love interest and there are great supporting cast performances by David Keith and even Robert Loggia has a small part. Anyway, trust me when I say this movie is a classic. Check out the trailer after the jump….

A very young Mr. Gere. He did an awesome job.
Love this movie. I’m 49 and a lot of the movies I liked in the 80s haven’t aged well. I recently saw this one and I still enjoy it. It’s a little cliched but in a good way. Highly recommended.
