Five Things We Love About Injustice 2
I can’t lie. Time halted for a brief moment when I first laid my eyes on “Injustice: Gods Among Us” in early 2013. I’m unapologetically a lifelong comic book fan, so you can only imagine how I felt when this DC Universe fighting game was released. After playing it, I was impressed.
The story, set in an alternate version of the Justice League’s universe where The Joker has tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis with a nuclear bomb, turning The Man of Steel into a tyrant. The storyline was solid, the gameplay crisp, the graphics very detailed.
I was hooked.
Fast forward to 2017 and Warner Bros. Interactive has just released the sequel to “Injustice: Gods Among Us,” “Injustice 2.” After playing the game for a few weeks, I’m impressed once again, and judging by online reviews, so are other gamers. Let’s break down the top 5 things we love about Injustice 2.
The storyline continues where it left off and is just as well written.
The game was only released a few weeks ago, so I don’t want to reveal any spoilers. The story begins at Superman’s defeat. Batman and his team are attempting to put the world back together… But let’s just say that Superman’s failed Regime is still a threat while a new faction known as “The Society” has also risen in a quest for world domination. The plot is full of twist and turns throughout, the voice cast does a fantastic job, and the cut scenes are detailed. Side Note: It’s worth beating at least twice because there are moments where you will pick between two characters to fight particular battles. Not only does the character you end the segment with unlock items for that character, but it also unlocks different story endings. Kudos to director Ed Boon and NetheRealm Studios for doing a fantastic job with this one.
Movement is more fluid. Gameplay is more advanced.
As much as I loved “Injustice: Gods Among Us” character movements were a bit stiff, and the fight mechanics had room for improvement. It was 2013 though so at the time it was fighting game standard. In 2017 the technology has definitely improved. In fact, I’m inclined to say that the gameplay is as good as the last few Mortal Kombat games… And that’s saying a lot.
Movement is a lot more fluid, and they’ve added new fight mechanics including an Air-breaker that lets you break a combo for 2 bars of the meter while you are being juggled in air and rolls that allow you to journey the entire screen distance to your opponent.
As an added bonus you can also customize your players look and upgrade their abilities, giving them more strength, health, speed, etc.
You have the option to auto-level characters to 20.
Personally, I just do it the old fashioned way of focusing on my character and beating levels. However, you can buy source crystals in the store for real money instead of spending a bunch of time acquiring XP for each character. Cost can add up quickly, but it’s an excellent option.
Darkseid!
Trust me, he’s worth the $6 store purchase if you really like this game. His ricocheting lasers are without a doubt one of the games coolest effects. Darkseid is just 360 degrees of kick ass and worth having in your arsenal.
The Multiverse
Injustice 2 introduced a new component to the game. A multiverse. What this does is introduce a multitude of rotating challenges with different stipulations across different Earths. Sometimes boss battles, other times objectives that unlock bonuses. Great addition that has kept me occupied for hours on end.
Conclusion
There are so many things to love about Injustice 2 that I didn’t get to touch on in this article including the loot drops, the AI battle simulator, and more. Is this game worth a buy? Definitely. Now let me stop typing and get back to playing.
