Expectations fro the New Assassin’s Creed Anime Series

Assassin’s Creed is one of Ubisoft’s most successful franchises, as shown by the fact that there has been at least one installment released on an annual basis since the first came out in 2007. In brief, the franchise is focused on the centuries-old conflict between two secret societies called the Assassins and the Templars, which is as much an ideological clash as it is a physical clash. All while caught up with the remnants of a pre-human civilization that was ruined by a massive solar storm. As a result, players who have been able to have action-adventure fun in a wide range of historical settings with the Assassin’s Creed franchise, with examples including but not limited to the Third Crusade, the European Renaissance, and the Age of Revolution.

Unsurprisingly, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has spawned a number of spin-offs such as books, comics, and even a trio of animated shorts. However, the best-known of these might be the Assassin’s Creed movie that came out in 2016, though considering that it was both a critical and a commercial flop, some people might wish that it was not. Regardless, it is interesting to note that there has been recent news that there will be an animated series based in the Assassin’s Creed setting, which should come as intriguing news to fans of the franchise to say the least.

What Can We Expect from the Assassin’s Creed TV Show?

People have been expecting something along these lines for a few months now. After all, the head of content for the franchise confirmed that there was a TV show under development during a AMA on Reddit back in March. Unfortunately, what we know is no more than what is needed to whit the appetite but no more than that.

In brief, Adi Shankar has been chosen to develop the Assassin’s Creed TV show, which will be an animated series in the style of Japanese anime similar to his other video game-based project, Castlevania. For people who are unfamiliar with the name, Adi Shankar is best-known for being both a movie director and a movie producer, though it is interesting to note that he has acted on some occasions as well. Generally speaking, he is best-known for short films that satirize pop culture classics such as James Bond and Power Rangers, but he has served as executive producer for feature films such as Dredd based on the Judge Dredd franchise. Regardless, Shankar has stated that the TV show will have an original narrative, meaning that we know nothing about either its protagonist, its setting, or even exactly what it means when it is described as being Japanese anime in style.

As a result, it is important to state again that we know next-to-nothing about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed TV show. Simply put, it is too soon to speculate what we can expect from it other than the broadest strokes of the setting because there is nothing that can be used as speculation. Still, considering the sheer number of Assassin’s Creed fans out there, it seems probable that this will continue to inspire fevered discussion for some time to come while we wait for more information to be released.
