Everything You Need To Know About The Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 Event

Fortnite Chapter 2 is almost over, with Season 8 concluding the past two years that players have spent playing the current map. Similar to Chapter 1, the chapter will conclude with an end-of-season event that will destroy the current map and take players onto the new map following a lengthy period of downtime. As we head into the final stretch of Chapter 2 and play on the map for the final time, here is everything you need to know about the Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 event as we head into Chapter 3.

Event Start Date And Time

The Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 event is due to begin on Saturday, December 4th at 4 pm EST/9 pm GMT and will likely last for approximately 15 minutes based on previous events. Players will be unable to queue into other game modes approximately 30 minutes before the event begins and instead will only be able to take part in the “The End” event.

What To Expect From The Event

The Cube Queen made her appearance in Chapter 2 Season 8 and has been floating above the pyramid in the middle of the map where the Zero Point once was. It is expected that she will play a large part in the end of chapter event and will cause the destruction of the map. It is likely that we will see the Zero Point appear during the event and possibly suck the map into it similar to the Chapter 1 map at the end of Season X. The Season 7 event saw many Cubes come to the map, with them moving around throughout Season 8 until they all made their way to the middle, so they should play a large part in the event too.

How Long Will Downtime Last?

While nothing is confirmed yet, a recent leak from Xbox suggests that the game could enter a downtime period lasting for three days. The Chapter 1 black hole event downtime lasted for two days from October 13th-15th, meaning that players will have to wait a whole day longer before they can jump into Chapter 3. It is expected that downtime will last until Tuesday, December 7th.

What To Expect From Chapter 3

Fortnite Chapter 3 is sure to bring lots of new changes to the game, and many of them have been leaked already. Although, it is worth noting that these must be taken with a grain of salt as most of them haven’t been confirmed by Epic Games. But, we can expect to see the following things added throughout Chapter 3.

  • New map (confirmed)
  • New graphics + Unreal Engine 5 upgrade (confirmed)
  • FNCS Duos throughout 2022 (confirmed)
  • In-person competitive events and tournaments (confirmed)
  • 2 round Cash Cups (confirmed)
  • Divisional tournaments (confirmed)
  • New competitive features (confirmed)
  • Save The World in the Discovery tab (confirmed)
  • Gamemode selection UI removed (unconfirmed but likely)
  • Creative 2.0 (confirmed)
  • Friends list rework (confirmed)
  • Boba Fett collaboration skin (confirmed)
  • Spider-Man collaboration (unconfirmed but likely)
  • The Matrix collaboration (leaked)
  • Weapon attachments (leaked)
  • Ability to slide (leaked)
  • New vehicle mods (leaked)
  • Rideable animals (leaked)
  • Throwable Axe item (leaked)
  • Crackshot Cabin to return during Xmas (leaked)
  • Fortnite spin-off game (unconfirmed but likely to happen eventually)
  • The Foundation skin release (unconfirmed but extremely likely)
  • Desert POI (unconfirmed)
  • Premade builds (unconfirmed but would be really interesting)

Sliding Mechanic

A recent promotional image shows a character sliding on the ground, which fueled the theories that a sliding mechanic would be coming to the game in Chapter 3, similar to what is seen in many other shooters such as Halo, Call of Duty, and Apex Legends. The mechanic has been found in the in-game files by leakers, confirming that it will be coming to the game in the near future. Chapter 2 saw new mechanics such as fishing come to Fortnite, so it is likely that Epic Games will want to be introducing something big to the game when Chapter 3 begin, and sliding may be what the developers have up their sleeves. It is possible that they might hold the mechanic back for a while and we may see it in a future season, similar to how cars were added in Chapter 2 Season 3 but they were leaked months before.

Collaborations

It has already been confirmed that Boba Fett from Star Wars will be coming to the game on December 24th. A new Boba Fett series on Disney Plus is due to be released soon, with the collaboration helping to promote it. It has also been leaked that there will be a Matrix collaboration with Neo and Trinity coming to the game to help promote The Matrix 4. Spider-Man has also been rumored to be coming to the game for a long time and now it looks like the skin will finally be coming to the game to promote Spider-Man: No Way Home.
