Crappy Movie Recommendation of the Week: Body Slam
Give that you just saw a bunch of posters that contained pro wrestlers I figured why fight it? Let’s just stick with the wrestling theme shall we? Today’s crap movie recommendation is a film the whole world needs to see. It’s called Body Slam and was made in what I considered to be the height of wrestling: the mid 80s.
This is when Hulk Hogan reigned supreme and you had dudes like Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper, Macho Man, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, and plenty of others riding the helm.
Body Slam is the story of M. Harry Smilac is a down-on-his-luck music manager who is having a hard time attracting talent and booking gigs for his band, Kicks. When making arrangements for a campaign fund-raiser, he mistakes Rick Roberts (played by Roddy Piper), a professional wrestler, for a musician and hires him. At that moment he becomes a wrestling manager and starts to book matches for him and his teammate Tonga Tom.
How could you not want to watch this movie? Amazingly I couldn’t find a trailer anywhere but you’ll have to take my word that this movie rocks.
Hell, I’m like you I can’t find the trailer, but there is a torrent copy of the movie you can download at your own comforted. And to the honest nerds out there you can rent it on Netflix.
It’s amazing to see the body transformation Piper went through from this film to “They Live” a year later. Guy must’ve lost 50 pounds…and gained it all back in muscle.
