Beating Pokemon Red With Only a Weedle

While I may be posting this as a trap for Jake Stone, as if he posts “Oh look, more Pokemon” one more time he’s getting banned, it really is a cool story. It’s about a girl whose favorite Pokemon was Weedle when she was younger, so she tried to beat the game using only him. Never letting him evolve, never letting any other Pokemon fight and giving him the soul crushing name, FAILURE.

The story is told over the course of six entries, and she goes from gym to gym, power leveling Weedle until his poison sting is unstoppable. If it seems like a pointless task, just think of it like trying to beat Halo 1 using only a pistol. Errr, Halo 2 using only a pistol.

Does she do it? Can she really beat the entire Elite 4 and her rival, “Jackass,” using only this little bugger? Read on and find out.

  1. I don’t think comparing it to beating Halo 2 with just a pistol is accurate. Pokemon is pretty much like any other typical JRPG game, you level up and you get more powerful so like in almost all JRPGs (pokemon included) if you level your character high enough you can beat anything the game throws at you. There is no leveling in Halo games, that pistol you’re using to kill everything you come across deals the same amount damage in the later stages of the game as it did when you first started. If she were able to keep it at level 1 and beat the game using that, then yes the Halo comparison would be accurate.

  2. I remember the first bioshock had a trophy for beating the game using only the wrench. That may be a more apt comparison, since your characters health would go up as you leveled up and the wrench would be more powerful. I’ve never played a pokemon game, but I imagine found what that girl did would still be hard as hell.

  3. I did this once, but with an alakazam. Which, in regards to this, is less impressive. But I beat Stupid gary with literally my last offensive attack.

  4. @ Party Paul, I did the same thing with Alakazam, as he is my favorite, and it was almost laughably easy. I made sure to fight every trainer in the game and by the time I got to the Elite Four it was a joke. Alakazam, despite already being ridiculously strong, was crazy O.P. in red and blue, because A: First Gen Psychic were only week to bug attacks (Which was limited to just Pin Missile if I remember correctly), and B: Almost anything that stood a chance was Type-paired with poison.
Sadly this is not a challenge in the slightest like the Weedle Challenge. Maybe one day I’ll go back and beat it all with Abra.

  5. That was the most impressive pokemon challenge I’ve ever seen and in gen 1 at that, the most broken generation of games (for better or worse) and she was on the bad side of the mechanics. Now i’m obliged to create a more difficult challenge…
