Reimagining Iconic Video Game Characters as Traditional Japanese Woodblock Prints

The world of crossover is a tough one.  While it has the potential to create something magical, the potential to bomb is also there as well.  Which is why when it’s done correctly we really appreciate it.  When you’re taking a movie character, video game character, or TV character and putting them into a different time, place, genre, the key is to put attention into details and be as thorough as possible.  That’s exactly what artist Dave Bull does here.

Originally from the U.S. Bull moved to Tokyo 25 years ago and learned the art of traditional woodblock printing.  In 2010 video game fan Jed Henry contacted him to potentially create woodblock prints of video game characters.  After that a Facebook page called Ukiyo-e Heroes was born.   The page now has a following of almost 50,000 people and is updated daily.

This is just a small sample size but you’ll see the quality of the work below.   My personal favorite is Luigi.

Thanks to Ukiyo Heroes for the pics and to The RSVLTS for finding these
