Anime Cosplay Girls in Tokyo Seem to Fit a Stereotype
I don’t really know how else to say this other than bring up an example from the television show Touch. If any of you follow that show you might remember this pair of characters. It’s two Asian girls who have a very upbeat, crazy personality. They seem to embrace life, technology, and spreading the word about viral videos. They dress in these crazy clothes, laugh a lot, and smile incessantly.
Now, I’m not sure what the show is trying to convey here. I’m sure it’s just a cultural thing. But that begs the question. Is this the youth of today in Japan? Honestly I don’t have a clue. But since we’re into Anime and Cosplay on the site I figured I’d share a batch of photos that displays this subculture of females that may or may not exist in Japan.
Take a look at various cosplay girls at anime shows in Tokyo after the jump. Is this real?
The problem I see is that 90% of those people were dudes.
Now, I think most of those are Booth Babes
You took pictures of it, so I will go out on a limb and say “photographic evidence constitutes proof”…
The last one is Betty Suarez (from Ugly betty) cosplayer
I just came back from Japan last week. The women out there a just as beautiful as depicted, and there are lots of ’em. The quirky personalities are super cute, too. Cosplay culture is more mainstream out there than in the US. If you want to know how some of the youth dress, search out the term “harajuku”. You’ll find that while that style is common out there, it might be considered cosplay in the US. I’m not saying everyone out there dresses like that, because there are also a lot of business suits and sailor schoolgirl outfits too.
But if I had a 5 yen piece for every Squall Leonhart or Selphie Tilmitt I saw there, I could afford another Japanese vacation.
I don’t even see what your question is. It’s a subculture, there isn’t any mystery about it.
Yes. It is real.
