An Ode to All My Video Game Love Interests
5. Liara T’Soni (Mass Effect series)
Okay, I’ll try my best to find GIFs for others too. I kind of had this love triangle going on between Liara and Miranda. Obviously, I chose Miranda in the end but Liara comes as a close second. I just love how she evolves from being naive to a strong woman throughout the trilogy. However, I saw her as Shepard’s little sister in the end. That sounded kind of wrong, but you get my point. I think it’s interesting how both Liara and Miranda were responsible for bringing Shepard back to life. Liara went through commendable lengths to get your body back, while Miranda spent two years working on the Lazarus project. I wish Shepard could have them both, but it doesn’t work that way. I don’t want to go too in-depth about Liara, but if you’re interested I wrote an article about her prominence in the series.
6. Leliana (Dragon Age: Origins)
I think I chose Leliana for the same reasons I had for Liara. However, Leliana intrigued me a bit more since I only thought that she was “innocent.” I loved her whole back story as an Orlesian bard/spy. If she was just a simple chantry girl, then I probably wouldn’t have paid her much attention. I opted to harden her in my playthrough. In most games, I ended it with her because I had to marry Anora even if she would have agreed to the idea of being a mistress. I felt like it wasn’t fair for both Anora and Leliana if they were going to compete for Cousland’s affection. However, I do have one where she stays on as a mistress just because I was selfish that time. It was sad when she confronted Cousland about his engagement to Anora. She wasn’t mad that she didn’t hear it from him. In fact, she was encouraging him to be faithful to Anora. That cracked my heart a bit especially since she was being so supportive even if her boyfriend was a douche.
What’s next for me?
Yeah, Triss Merigod is probably the only thing that will convince me to play the Witcher games. Is she all smoke but no cigar? We’ll see. I’m interested to see the true depth of her character.
Fallout New Vegas – I had very deep feelings for Cass.
WHAT? Miranda was with you, too? Wow, I was pretty sure her and I had something REAL.
@Banditone
Gosh, still haven’t played Fallout New Vegas
@Remy Carreiro
What?? We’ve been messing with the same girl? Nah, you must have her clone sister Oriana.
I stopped reading at “I stopped watching Game of Thrones”
One does not simply stop watching Game of Thrones. My favorite vidya waifus are Tali (her personality even beats dat ass of Miranda’s) of ME, Leliana (so much yes) and Merrill (soooooo nerdy) of Dragon Age, both Catherine and Katherine from Catherine (I just couldn’t choose), Lady Grey from Fable 1 and 2 (I raised her from the grave to marry her reanimated corpse; now that is love), and Veronica from Fallout: New Vegas (voiced by personal dreamgirl Felicia Day). Sadly, no real romance in Fallout, but I suppose a one-sided love interest is still a love interest. Speaking of which, a special props to Elizabeth in Bioshock: Infinite, which I’m playing through currently. She’s adorable AND functional!
Also, did I just get a shout-out? I’m honored, milady.
Oh, and I forgot. Triss Merigold. Fell in love with her near the beginning of The Witcher 2, but the second half of my game had a distinct lack of Triss so I’m afraid I had to seek female company elsewhere. I even got a chievo for it! I hope Miss Merigold more prominent throughout part 3. Also, Cortana. Love me some Cortana.
The best thing to do in Fable 2 is get 2 wives in the same town, then move them into houses right next to each other. Then every time you visit you can watch them squabble like guests on a medieval Jerry Springer show.
I’m sorry guys! I just don’t have the time to watch it… among many other shows!!
@trashcanman
Oh Lady Grey, I felt so evil for taking her when the bloke you helped was clearly in love with her. It’s so funny when you hit her… she channels her inner beast haha Man, my only gripe with Witcher is I heard you can’t edit how he looks…
@Seth
Wait, you can do that? I don’t remember if I did, but I know that’s something I would do.
I would kiss Garrus Vakarian’s scars every day for the rest of my life. I loved him in ME1 and then blatantly used Kaidan to ease my frustrations.
I eventually did the right thing and broke things off with Alenko as soon (and as gently) as I could in ME3, but I felt so guilty during ME2 every time I saw his picture on the desk in my quarters. I love that part of my storyline. Here I am, this paragon of humanity (see what I did there) doing something totally shitty to a crew member on a personal level. It made everything seem so much more real.
Well, that and James sexually harassing me in Purgatory. Guess what, boyo? You just bought yourself a one-way ticket to Jacobsville (ie. you will never go on any missions again).
Jacob spends all of ME2 in Kaidansville.
Liara, Leliana, Merrill and Isabela are my favorite romances.
For unrequited romance (the best kind) there can only be Mad Moxxi
