Amazing Space Photos Taken from the Hubble Telescope

I’m not sure how many of you follow astronomy.   I guess the extent to which I do is if I hear on the news to look out for a comet, or that on this particular day you might be able to see Jupiter.   You know, that kind of stuff.   But little did I know how far we’ve really traveled and how much “closer” we are to outer space.

And by closer I mean our technology is so badass now that pictures of planets like Mars and Jupiter look like they’re in our living rooms.   The pictures you are about to see are not photoshopped.   They were all taken using the Hubble Telescope.   Not even taken from space.

Pretty amazing stuff after the jump….

Thanks to Reuters for these amazing pictures.  It’s hard to believe these are real.

  2. is a really cool website where amateur astrophotographers upload their images. It’s quite amazing what someone can do in their own backyard with a 6 inch refractor scope.

  3. All Hubble images are photoshopped. The hubble uses three (really 4) cameras to take photos. Each camera is assigned a color (red, blue, green). The 4th is to fill in gaps. You can see how they are made from Hubble’s own youtube channel. This is a quote from the Hubble Site:

Hubble images are made, not born. Images must be woven together from the incoming data from the cameras, cleaned up and given colors that bring out features that eyes would otherwise miss.

  4. As EarthThePlanet pointed out, the Hubble telescope is orbiting the earth. So you’re wrong, these photos are taken from space. If your intended meaning was that they are not taken from a point in space close to the objects being photographed, though, the sentiment is correct.
