Batgirl Begins

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

I’m about 98% sure this is photoshop, but I really wish it wasn’t so there could be more photos in this series. Most of us love the dark, armored redesign of Batman in the Nolan era, but it would be pretty cool to see Batgirl rendered in that form as well, even if she is just a little girl in the timeline of the series.

Through either the greatest costume making skills ever, or some rather good photoshop, we have a look at what she might look like, boob armor and all. I doubt we’ll ever see her onscreen after the fiasco that was Batman and Robin, but still, cool to imagine.

How Skyrim Affects Relationships

Published by Paul Tassi under Video Games,Videos

Skyrim is a game that can be almost soul consuming at times, as you’ll pick up the controller, kill a few Draugrs, become Archmage of the College of Winterhold and when you look up, it’s six hours later.

Needless to say,  if two people that are dating are BOTH playing the game hardcore? It can be a bit of a buzzkill on the relationship, as the virtual world becomes far more engrossing than the real one. I thought this was a particularly hilarious video illustrating that point. My favorite part is how he hangs up the phone, which I’ve totally done on many an occasion when my hands are full.

What Would Make the WiiU an Autobuy

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Video Games

The WiiU is a big gamble for Nintendo, even for a company known for big gambles. If it combines the graphical ability to play third party games effectively with Nintendo’s line-up of exclusive classics, it could be a smash hit.

But one game would propel it over the edge over many others. My thoughts on the need for a long-awaited Pokemon console game are best left for another day, but I will say that it’s nice to see someone else out there express the same desire I have to see such a title. The new WiiU screen controller would be perfect for the game, be it for a Pokedex or minimap, but I’m not sure what it’s going to take for Nintendo to get their act together and make this game already.

The Dexter that Could Have Been

Published by Paul Tassi under Editorials,Television

It’s no secret that I think this season of Dexter has been pretty awful this year, which has been a big disappointment as I’ve loved to see the show topping itself year after year. Doomsday, the clanging religious overtones and Dexter himself have just seemed a bit…off.

I have my own theories on how the show could get back on track, but I’ll save those for another day. Today , I’d rather dive into something I recently chose to investigate, the original book series that the show is based off of by Jeff Lindsey.

Some of you might not actually know this is the case, and if you do but haven’t read them, you might be wondering why there aren’t people chiming in with upcoming plot spoilers every week like they do with Game of Thrones. Well, that’s because the books are a little…different than the adventures we’ve seen on screen.

Debate of the Day: Warrior, Rogue or Mage?

Published by Paul Tassi under Debate,Video Games

It’s a question as old as RPGs themselves, which class are you? The warrior, the rogue or the mage? Though there have been many variations on each over the years, with hybrids and offshoots and such, these are really the fundamental options when it comes to most RPGs, and each has a different playstyle that says a lot about you.

Obviously, this is a question most recently inspired by Skyrim, as the three classes are pretty much your options in that realm. I’ve found what class you pick in one game is usually what you select in most others as well, and taking an informal survey of the audience, I wanted to simply ask, why?

As for me? I’m usually the Barbarian/Warrior/Knight/Soldier/Wrecking Ball. Why? Perhaps it’s a deep seeded psychological desire to be twice as strong and jacked as I am. Perhaps I just like running around breaking things, and don’t have a way to do so in real life. I guess in games I don’t have the patience for stealth, and don’t like the complications of Spellcasters. I just like killing, and the warrior gets the job done efficiently through brute strength.

What about you?

A Gallery of Pitch Perfect Daria Cosplay

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Television

This has to be one of my favorite cosplay galleries I’ve featured in quite some time, and it couldn’t be further removed from sexy. Rather, SoDespair shows that girl costumes simply have to be accurate and awesome to be appreciated, and her and her friend’s Daria project is fantastic.

Daria, Jane and Trent all make appearances, their look and costumes a perfect 1:1 replica of the show. It’s actually hard to recall a better instance of a cartoon coming to life via cosplay, and I don’t say that lightly.

If you were a fan of the show, you’ll definitely appreciate this gallery. Check it out below:

Movie Recommendation of the Week: 18 Again!

Published by Nattyb under Columns,Movies

After all this time on this site I can’t believe I never made mention of the movie 18 Again! Seriously.  What in the hell is wrong with me.  Also, I’m pretty sure I’ve never written the name George Burns on this site until now either.   Anyway, this movie was miraculously on television the other day and every single time it’s on I always think it’s that annoying movie 17 Again with Zac Efron.  But it’s not!  It’s a totally different movie and yes, it’s an 80s flick.

Anyway, here’s the summary:

Jack Watson is an 81 year old businessman, who is not exactly liked by his son, and who is pushing his meek grandson, David to excel in athletics as he did. At his birthday party, before blowing out the candles he’s asked to make a wish and his wish is to be 18 again. While out with David they get into a car accident and when he wakes up, he discovers that he is now in David’s body and David is in his body which is comatose. He then goes out to enjoy himself but at the same discovers just how tough David has it in school and finds out how his girlfriend, Madeline feels about him, and also how his son feels about him.

As you can imagine, it’s kind of funny watching young David (played by Charlie Schlatter) act like an old man but trapped in a young man’s body.  There are plenty of sexual puns, funny cute moments, and it’s definitely a smiler type of film.

Is it quality?  Of course not, but definitely family fun on a Sunday afternoon.

Check out the trailer after the jump….

The Dark Superhero Grandpa Befriends Darth Vader: A Gallery

Published by Nattyb under Images

It’s not a huge genre but I think it’s a funny one.   Somewhere along the way in the last couple of years “old people doing young stuff” has become a small little phenomenon that warrants attention.  It particularly warrants attention when it involves anything revolving around what we focus on here.

Today we present a funny little day with Darth Vader.   It’s some old dude playing a superhero of no particular identification.  But it just happens to be hilarious watching them spend the day together.

And watch out for the big surprise at the end.  Thanks to Sachabada for the pics

The Morning Link: Stephen Colbert Interviews Neil deGrasse Tyson

Published by Paul Tassi under Morning Link

I don’t normally post hour and a half long interviews as the morning link, but trust me when I say this one is worth it. Colbert, out of character, interviews astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson about all things space, and it’s amazing in every way.

Go here to see it.
