The Final Countdown: Alternate Costumes, Modern Bullies and Robocop Speaks to Detroit

Published by under Final Countdown

Go here to see the best alternate costumes in gaming.

Alternate costumes have been a staple of games for years now, but usually by the time you unlock them, you’re too exhausted to play through the game again. But in case you missed them, here are some of the best ones above.

Unreality’s Facebook page thinks the cheerleader Bayonetta costume is more conservative than the original.

A Map of Death in Just Cause 2

Published by under Images,Video Games

Just Cause 2 has been getting a lot more attention recently as it’s Zero Punctuation’s game of the year, which is crazy because Yahtzee hates everything and actually seemed to hate the game when he was reviewing it. I played through it myself, and found it to be fun, but ultimately TOO huge for it’s own good, it’s town and army bases eventually becoming cookie cutter with no real reason to keep exploring them.

But exploration is the name of the game, and I did find this recently released heatmap of deaths in the game rather funny. Yes, your character can swim, but the fact is, anytime you found yourself stuck in the water, it was more prudent to actually drown yourself than to spend the massive amount of time it would take to swim back to show. Hence the ocean of blood on the map.

You should give Just Cause a rent if you haven’t played it yet, but game of the year? Meh.

If Breaking Bad Was on ABC

Published by under Television,Videos

Are you guys noticing a trend lately? I’m finding that most of my favorite shows on TV right now aren’t on the same networks they used to be. Sure, I’ll tune in for NBC’s Thursday comedy line-up, but for actual drama that isn’t CSI, L&O or NCIS related, I’m turning to networks like AMC, FX, HBO and Showtime.

One of the crown jewels of scripted drama these days is Breaking Bad, where Bryan Cranston plays a chemistry teacher who cooks meth. It’s a gritty show. but what happens when you force it into the confines of a network with far less tolerance for R-rated material? Check out the video above to find out.

Time to Start Getting Excited for Mass Effect 3

Published by under Images,Video Games

Good news and bad news. The good news is there are some incredible games coming out this year. The bad news is that most of them aren’t being released until the fall. It’s true of Skyrim (can’t wait) and it’s also true of Mass Effect 3.

It seems like a relatively short time since the second game came out, and I haven’t even gotten around to playing the DLC yet. I love the game, but it’s a constant battle of second guessing. I try to be a good man, but misinterpret a line of dialog (should we rescue the crew now, or keep exploring first?), and your entire ship’s crew becomes a Reaper protein shake.

But I am excited for the third game, as Mass Effect is by far one of my favorite series of all time. The bit of art you see above is surprisingly enough not official, but made by Patryk Olejniczak, who has done versions of Miranda, Garrus and Thane which you can check out below. No Tali? Come on Patryk! But yeah, really great job, these are amazing.

Debate of the Day: How Can the Oscars Be Exciting?

Published by under Debate,Movies

In the past, I’ve referred to the Oscars as being the Super Bowl of the entertainment world, but I’m starting to shy away from that classification. Even though I’m not a sports fanatic, I find it incredibly difficult to project the same sort of enthusiasm for the Academy Awards that one would have for an important football game. There just isn’t anything to cheer for these days really.

Everything just seems like a forgone conclusion. Yes, they now give the illusion of diversity with TEN nominees for Best Pictures, but everyone knows its always between two or three. I picked wrong this year, but rather than the infinite sorrow of a Steelers fan, I just thought “meh, King’s Speech was really good too. Well done.” There are no more “CRASH???” moments or giant films that come along and sweep through 11 awards like Titanic.

And the show itself? Yawn. This is supposed to be the premiere entertainment event of the year, and it’s just…so…not entertaining. I get the show needs class and glamor and ass-kissing, but I can’t remember one memorable thing from last nights show. Melissa Leo dropping the F-bomb? James Franco inexplicably wearing a dress? Uh huh.

I’m not sure what the answer is here. I’m not saying that they should purposefully give awards to the undeserving to piss people off, or tell people to run on stage during other people’s acceptance speeches, but like the last five shows at this point have just kind of blurred together in my mind.

Does anyone else feel like the Oscars need some spice? What would you prescribe?

Street Fighter vs Tekken in Street Art Form

Published by under Images,Video Games

Street art is all the rage this year as Banksy just won an Oscar (I’m assuming, I’m writing this before the show, but Exit Through the Gift Shop HAS to win).

Therefore, in that spirit I’ve decided to share this series of pictures with you that is a creative new look at Street Fighter (update: and Tekken, I’m an idiot). I’m not sure if it’s actually on a wall somewhere (that would be awesome), but it is definitely in street art style.

Crappy Must See Movie Recommendation of the Week: Quicksilver

Published by under Columns

OK if you haven’t seen this movie then you really don’t know your 80s.  I can’t even tell you how awesome it is.  Picture Kevin Bacon as a high class Wall Street Broker with a mustache, yes a mustache.  Said Broker loses it all in one day on a big hunch and what does he turn to in order to pay his way?  Being a bike messenger.  And here we have Quicksilver.

Along the way he learns about the sordid underground world of bike messenging by meeting his foe Larry Fishburne who bikes for the wrong kind of people.  He befriends a lost girl played by Jamie Gertz and another funny guy who wants to own a hotdog stand (played by Paul Rodriguez).

It all comes to a head when Bacon must decide to be the good guy by saving his lost soul friends and also returning to his roots on Wall Street.  By the way my corny description isn’t nearly as corny as the movie.  You have to see this one.

Trailer after the jump…..

An Amazing Gallery of HDR Photographs by Jakub Kubica

Published by under Images

In case any of you are curious as to what HDR photographs are, they are basically regular photographs that are enhanced digitally.  So while it’s not necessarily photoshop, it’s pretty close.

If you know how to do it right then the results can be quite extraordinary.   Thankfully there’s an artist out there named Jakub Kubica who knows his stuff when it’s comes to HDR photos and he happens to have quite a gallery.

Here are 40 stunning photos from Kubica.

The Morning Link: Seven Movies that Ignored World Changing Discoveries

Published by under Morning Link

For the sake of the plot, sometimes movies ignore their own future advancements in technology, and what that capability actually means. It’s kind of hard to explain, but trust me, it’s worth a read.

Unreality’s Oscar 2011 Liveblog

Published by under Movies

Welcome to Unrealiy’s third annual liveblog of the Academy Awards. Why should you tune in here over anywhere else? Because we’re awesome damnit, and this is like the Super Bowl for entertainment junkies like ourselves.

I’ll be updating this post through the show with my thoughts on what’s happening, and I’ll probably cover a bit of the red carpet as well. I’m actually pretty excited for the awards this year, as last year I felt things were a bit too obvious (I predicted 85% of the awards correct). This year, I think we have a far better selection of movies and performances, and though I have my favorites, I’m curious to see how it all turns out. Also, James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosting should be interesting.

Alright, so the liveblog kicks off below, probably about 20-30 mins before the actual show at 8 EST. Keep refreshing the pages for the latest updates, and chime in any time with your own thoughts.
