The Final Countdown: Star Wars 3D, Smokey’s Origins and a Black Dynamite Cartoon

Published by Paul Tassi under Final Countdown

Go here to see what the best scenes in Star Wars 3D will be.

Yes, that’s right. He doesn’t have enough damn money, so George Lucas is rereleasing all six Star Wars movie in theaters…in upconverted 3D. An like that, a million fanboys cried out and were suddenly silenced. JUST MAKE NEW MOVIES ALREADY! Or better yet, let someone else do it.

Unreality’s Facebook page wishes they’d taken George Lucas instead of Greg Geraldo.

A Very Bad Dad

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

Wow, a piece of great artwork NOT from DeviantArt. That’s quite the rare occasion, and this piece is from artist Dave Greco, who has other cool work you can see on his site here.

I’m sure most of you get the reference here, but if not, it’s a vision of Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums, which was like Arrested Development with the dry humor turned up so high the film was practically a desert of comedy. In a good way. I need to watch this again, it’s been too long.

English in 24 Different Accents

Published by Paul Tassi under Videos

I’ve seen a few of these different accent videos, but they always seem to fascinate me. This one is from a guy who isn’t even an actor, but very well could be as he can do accent from all over the world. Not sure when Hollywood might need a white guy who can do a perfect Japanese accent, but I guess it’s possible.

He’s originally English, and has a number of voices from his home country, but my favorite are his dead on American accents, and many of his international ones are fantastic as well. How does someone even learn how to do this?

Watch the whole thing, it’s definitely worth it.

Steampunk X-Men Goes Better than Expected

Published by Paul Tassi under Images,Movies

Even after all years of seeing Steampunk develop as a trend, I’m still not sure whether I love it or hate it. Examples like this, seen at Dragon-Con this year, make me think it’s alright, and I was frankly surprised to see Steampunk X-Men go so well.

Gambit is already pretty Steampunk as is it seems, as really the only thing different is his tie. Rogue (or Jean Grey) kind of just looks like your average western harlot, but Wolvie and Prof X are pretty well done.

Head over to Smeeon’s Flickr page for more shots of the group and costumes.

Moving Away from Multiplayer

Published by Paul Tassi under Editorials,Video Games

A kind of fatigue has set in for me in the years since video game “multiplayer” mode has gone from three of my friends and I sitting around an N64 in my living room, to now me and 15 strangers from all over the world yelling at each other through headset microphones while playing Xbox 360. I’m getting tired of this new era, and my taste in video game is moving away from prolonged multiplayer stints to more focused single-player adventures. Why?

I realized I’m never going to be that good.

Look, you play something long enough, and you are decent at it. I win games of Call of Duty, Starcraft and Halo, and I also lose some. But the fact is, in this age of the internet, you will ALWAYS find someone better than you, and the world of video gaming is now one of diminishing returns. In order for you to truly be a top tier player in anything, you have to devote massive amounts of time to it. But to be the best, you might have to put in four extra hours a day to get even a 5% boost over your competitors.

Law and Order SVU’s Brilliant Portrayal of Gamers

I hate procedural shows with a passion. They’re lazily written, and for people with microscopic attention spans, and I’ve never seen one that had a mystery that was anywhere near actually interesting. The two best examples of this are the CSI and Law and Order franchises, which have spawn probably six or seven shows between them. Some are better than others, but Law and Order SVU is the most ridiculous to me. Every crime is somehow sex related, which is supposed to make it more interesting I guess, but the show is just awful.

This is best exemplified by this clip which shows what Law and Order thinks of video gamers. It’s every stereotype in the book, including the fact that the guy says “Pause Game” in the middle of a regular conversation. How the hell do shows like this last for eleven years?

Madison’s Hard Goodbye

Published by Madison under Editorials

At least for the foreseeable future, this will be the last post I write for Unreality.  Along with Paul and Natty, I’ve been writing for this site for nearly two years and have been fortunate enough to watch it grow and develop over that time.  However, there are other endeavors I want to pursue, and as my responsibility at my “real” job as an attorney continues to increase seemingly every day, it’s time for me to leave Unreality.  Like I mentioned, the site has indeed developed quite a bit, and I think it’s going to continue to improve as time goes on.

Get a Load of the Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter

Published by Nattyb under Uncategorized

I have to say that in all my years of seeing the crazy stuff that surrounds Star Trek, I can’t believe I’ve never seen this.   I mean of all the unrelated, weird, completely off the wall tributes to the show that people come up with, no one has come up with a simple product like a pizza cutter that looks like the Enterprise?

Isn’t that kind of strange?  Well, whatever.  I’m glad it’s around.  No I wouldn’t buy it but if you’re a trekkie I’m sure this is a perfect collector’s item.

I have a few more pictures after the jump….

20 Things Made out of Old Gadgets

Published by Nattyb under Images

I’m a big fan of recycling but generally when I think of the concept I refer to bottles or plastic.   I enjoy the idea of helping the environment by reusing some of our materials when they can be reused again.  But if I have to be honest I’m not the biggest proponent of saving every little thing like some people.

But perhaps I should start thinking about that.  Because with a little creativity you can take some out of date stuff and make some damned cool little gadgets and other things.  All it takes is a little bit of mechanical know how and you’ve got yourself some pretty original items to display in your home.

Here are 20 things made out of old gadgets…..

The Morning Link: RIP Greg Giraldo

Published by Paul Tassi under Morning Link

So Greg Giraldo died. That’s random. And sad. But more sad that everywhere is saying he’s “best remembered for his appearances at celebrity roasts.” Not what I would want on my tombstone, but hey, at least I know who he is.

I’m sure he was a great guy, and anyone dying this young is a tragedy, so many condolences. Check out some of his funniest lines here.
