28 Hi-Def Calvin and Hobbes Wallpapers

(click for wallpaper size)

There are few things I truly miss in life. One is my cat Goldie who died when I was twelve of an enlarged heart. The second is Bill Knapp’s restaurant which went out of business and had the best chicken noodle soup I’ve had or will ever have. The third is Calvin and Hobbes, a comic strip I loved as a kid, but appreciated even more as an adult once I started getting most of the deeper jokes and thoughts in it.

But Bill Watterson wanted to go out on top, and so he pulled a Seinfeld and ended the strip when it was still insanely popular. All we have left are the old comics, but there’s plenty of joy to be found in those to this day.

This wallpaper collection I found over at Hoyso, but the site appears to be down. I managed to locate the images by themselves, and I’ve posted them below so you can pick and choose which you might like to express your love for the comic. My pick is the one above, but there are a bunch of great ones to choose from here.

Thank you so much for these! So much nostalgia. I actually wrote a letter to Mr. Watterson when I was 11 I think and I first heard he was going to retire. I asked him to reconsider. I actually received a reply on Calvin and Hobbes stationary. Obviously it didn’t work but still classy to respond to an 11 years old.

  • Very, very cool. Thanks for posting!

  • Jim Lahey

Those are all great, but i still prefer my current calvin and hobbes wallpaper with the background being actual comic strips of CH.

  • Thanks, these are the best wallpapers I’ve seen in a long time. I like the part where there’s no Calvin peeing on X ones.

Bill Waterson quit doing Calvin and Hobbes not so much because he wanted to go out on top, but because he was tired of fighting with his syndicate about the content and the legacy of his art. He was especially adamant about not wanting Calvin and Hobbes to be merchandized, like Charles Schultz’s Peanuts, with toys, t-shirts, and mugs. I wonder how he would feel about his artwork being used as wallpapers.
