Well This is News to Me

Chloe Moretz appears to now be the go-to girl when people need A) a young actress covered in blood, B) the star to remake a beloved horror film or C) both. We’re firmly in camp C here as Moretz’s latest role appears to be a remake of Carrie, because nothing is sacred anymore.

Moretz seems to age like three years every time I see her onscreen. I was on a plane watching her in Dark Shadows for ten minutes before I figured out it was her. She’s 15 now, putting her in high school age which fits with Carrie, and after seeing her as Hit Girl and the vampire from Let Me In, I can say this is firmly in her wheelhouse.

I had no idea this movie was happening, and don’t believe it’s a good idea, but I can’t deny Moretz fits. She is on the borderline of being typecast at this point, but being typecast as a badass might not be the worst thing in the world.

I think I'm a part of the first generation of journalists to skip print media entirely, and I've learned a lot these last few years at Forbes. My work has appeared on TVOvermind, IGN, and most importantly, a segment on The Colbert Report at one point.

  1. i really like her as an actor, she has actual skills, portrays them really well in Let me in, that’s when she really won me over. I really liked her in kickass to, but heck, i think this is good for her, she will probably get a nomination for this if done right. It all depends on the writers and director really.

  3. Let me be the “I’m-a-fucking-huge-geek-who-reads-books-and-ergo-ruins-movies-based-on-said-books” BUT casting Moretz is a misfire in my opinion. The girl in the original novel doesn’t link up with what I imagine Chloe will bring to the role. You’re telling me a girl like Chloe is gonna be bullied constantly? Carrie isn’t some cute little blonde girl. She’s awkward. She’s damaged. She fucks shit up. I don’t agree with it.

  5. Agreed inter. I’m a huge king fan and I am tired of the awful Hollywood casting done for Carrie. Are they making a new adaptation or just remaking the original? Carrie is ugly and overweight, not a skinny pretty blonde girl.

    Also, this is the third Carrie movie. Not including the sequel and the musical (??) can we PLEASE do some other king books?
