As we head into a new console generation/wave of graphics cards, there always seems to be one game genre leading the pack: auto racing. Whether it’s Gran Turismo on Playstation or Forza on Xbox, there’s just something about car graphics that seem to be way ahead of the pack.

Now, it would appear that complete and utter photorealism has been reached at the hands of a new game. The crowdsourced and funded Project Cars is a game that raised a million Euro, and used every bit of it to look this good. This amazing gallery shows actual screenshots from the game, and not some replay mode where post-production effects are added. The actual game.

As you’ll be able to see, these are simply no longer able to be distinguished from real life. If we’ve finally achieved this with cars, how close are we to doing it with humans now? Anyone see Beyond at E3? We’re gettin’ there.

  1. Yeah, it needs a pretty good rig to max it out. When I play, it looks really great, but not this pretty. The physics are a bit disappointing though, it still feels somewhat like NFS: Shift.

What I’m really looking forward to is Assetto Corsa. I feel this year or the next one will be really good for simulation fans, with Assetto Corsa, Rfactor 2 and Project CARS coming out.
