So How About That New Spider-Man Trailer?

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tnxzJ0SSOw

It’s been a while since we’ve shown a particularly epic blockbuster trailer to spark discussion, and I thought this one would qualify. The first Amazing Spider-Man spot was largely introductory, but now this new trailer shows a great deal more of the reboot.

I like it, and not just because Andrew Garfield is the closest thing I have to a celebrity doppleganger. I’m already digging his character as a harder version of Tobey Maguire’s whiny, hapless Parker. You can never go wrong with Emma Stone, and I’m curious if they would have the balls to kill her off.

The CGI on The Lizard looks a touch sketch, but you never really get a clear view of him, so it’s hard to tell. Why do we hate actual costumes so much these days? Anyway, I think it could turn out well. What do you think?

  1. Meh. And that’s coming from a comic nerd who sees almost every comic flick released, LOVES all things Spidey, and has low enough standards to have bought Elektra on DVD. The Lizard was the villain I was screaming for all through the last trilogy and now he’ here and they made him look lame right off the bat. I wanted this:

    and they gave me this:

Also, do you know how many times I’ve watched/read Spidey’s origin? Me neither, but it’s probably in the dozens. Doing yet another one so close to the last trilogy is a bad idea and I just can’t get excited about it. If I hear good things, I’ll still go see it, but unlike most other big comic flicks, I won’t be at the midnight premiere or the first showing in the morning.

  2. I don’t like reboots. Majority of the time I hate them. Especially when the previous movie franchise was what, less than 5 years ago. I also don’t care too much about the possiable romance story. And why are movies now-a-day so dark. Are we in the Emo phase of action movies? Sad thing is since I’m a Marvel, chances of me see the movie are 30-70%. 70% me waiting for it to hit the Blu-Ray shelf and 30% actually going to the theatre. Either way I’ll be spending money on this possiable load of Poo.

  3. Seems more accurate to the comic. I like how they put a better emphasis on him being a science genius and actually show him inventing his webshooters (instead of the weird BS organic crap from the toby mcguire one).

  4. I have to say it seems slightly better then what i was expecting, but what i was expecting was some stupid idea where the cross-bread comic books with twilight. I still think that’s what we have here. Plus i really don’t care enough to watch his god damn origin story again. I’m also really tired of ever one taking their mask off. i get it, you want more screen time, but it’s not like we came to see your face. we came to see the hero from our comic books, you have the privileged of portraying him on the silver screen. I get that it’s hard to set emotion with a mask, where in the comics they can just re-size the eyes and stuff, but really it bugs me that mask keeps coming off.

  5. The first thing i thought when I saw the headline was, “I wonder how long Tassi will make it before he makes that ‘doppleganger’ comment.”

Answer: Two sentences. I cant wait for this movie to be out so I no longer have to read about a guy some person or people have mentioned you looked like anymore.

That being said, I really enjoy the site and visit it daily but again, lay off the ‘doppleganger’ stuff. Im sure you already know no one liked The Clone Saga.

  6. I gotta admit I was skeptical, but this does look pretty impressive. Plus, you can never go wrong with Denis Leary. He is actually a perfect choice for Captain Stacy. Is it just me or is some of Ultimate Spidey mixed in here, with regards to Peter’s dad? I”m not totally educated on that part of his origin so I’m not sure.

  7. CGI Lizardman looks really lame and I’m mad they kicked Dylan Baker off the franchise after promising him to become Lizardman over the course of 3 movies! Dylan Baker is awesome!

I actually amused that they casted Denis Leary in a blockbuster summer movie. Jarring.

So far I’m still underwhelmed, but it cant possibly be worse than Spider-man 3.

  8. The only good thing to come out of this film is the always epic Emma Stone. Period.

Spiderman movies reached their peak and eventually saturated with the third installment, much like what batman & robin did for the previous batman franchise, only that the reboot for batman managed to wait much longer (and had Nolan) which can be credited to its success.

And speaking of batman, TDKR is gonna whoop spidey’s @ss at the box office, and the avengers will finish him off.

  9. Spiderman 3 had a number of issues that should’ve been huge red flags for anyone thinking it was going to be good.

It was the third movie so someone thought it’d be cute to have 3 villains for him to fight. Everything had to be bigger and better, it’s like it was written by a Sony studio exec, which it probably was.

The actors had grown tired of the roles (and frankly I was tired of Kristen Dunst before the first one came out) and were essentially phoning it in.

Spiderman 1 and 2 both also had the benefit of casting a very strong actor in the role of the lead villain, and the villain had a purpose and a menace. They did not have that luxury in the 3rd. Franco had the potential, but with him phoning it in already, he certainly wasn’t going to pull if off for this one.

As for the Batman movies, I’ve never considered Batman & Batman Returns and Batman Forever & Batman & Robin part of the same storyline.

Batman and BR were dark and grimy, BF and B&R were bright shiny and garish.
