Movie Recommendation of the Week: Nothing But Trouble

Here’s a movie that I think might hit home to plenty of people my age.   It’s not funny.   It’s NOT a funny movie yet I’m so drawn to it because there’s so many repeatable lines and scenes that you kind of have to see this flick.  Anyway, it’s called Nothing But Trouble.  It stars Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Demi Moore, and John Candy.

It’s a wacky movie about a couple of yuppies who get lost on their way to Atlantic City and wind up in this weird mining town.   They get pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign but soon find they’ll be getting more than just a ticket for their crime.

They’re taken to this really old weird “haunted” house of sorts and are introduced to a world that frankly I’ve never seen.   Aykroyd plays the wacky judge who presides over this mess.  Candy plays both a cop and the judge’s daughter.   Then there are these funny ancillary roles like the pizza guy from Fast Times at Ridgemont high who plays a rich Brazilian dude.

Oh and there’s an appearance by Digital Underground (and yes Tupac is in this movie).   Seriously it’s an incredibly dumb movie yet I find myself watching it every single time it’s on TV.  Oh and by the way, there’s a scene where Aykroyd’s nose looks like a penis for a split second.  It’s hilarious.

Check out the joke of a trailer

I didn’t realize that Aykroyd wrote and directed the movie.

  1. I just mentioned this movie the other day, but I couldn’t remember the name of it. You’re right, it’s not particularly funny, but it is bizarre enough to keep watching.

    Do the Humpty-Hump…

  2. this is by far the best crappy movie recommendation of all time.

    bobo and lil devil?
    penis nose?

    comedy gold…without even being funny.

and christ, the things i would eat out of demi moore’s ass….

  3. Weird synchronicity again, I just glanced through my old VHS collection the other day, few hundreds gathering dust on the shelves. Was about to grab this and test whether the vhs player still works. Well, didn’t. And felt I did not miss much. Maybe next year. Still, enjoyable piece of crap, one is oddly drawn to it when it’s on tv, indeed!

  4. I think it’s funny and we get drawn to it because creepy bizarre wacky people, families, and places (not exactly in this dramatic fashion) do happen in our lives sometimes. And, every time, you would wonder whether you are on a different planet.

I find it hilarious and entertaining and it’s a great metaphor … especially when I think about the odd family tradition my ex and ex-inlaws practice in their own small odd little “town” disconnected from the rest of the society – figuratively speaking.
