Crappy/Awesome Movie Recommendation of the Week: Men at Work
I’ve gotten a lot of fan mail about our “That Guy” Actor of the Week column so I decided to come up with something new. Don’t worry I’ll still be posting all those actors whose faced you recognize but names you don’t know. This week I decided that I would bring to you a new feature that would focus on movies that all of us know suck in the artistic and “Oscar” sense but that we all love anyway.
We love these movies because they’re so ridiculously over-the-top bad that they’re awesome. And I think an excellent first choice is the movie Men at Work. Back in 1990 brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez teamed up to play a couple of goofy garbage men who get mixed up in a murder rap involving a politician and his sexy assistant.
Along the way they encounter a couple of doofy cops, their insanely war scarred boss, their rival garbage men, and some gangsters. But I have to say the chemistry between Sheen and Estevez is awesome. They’re both pretty damned funny and the music is great. It’s all reggae. Both directed and written by Estevez, I guarantee you guys will get a kick out of this flick.
Trailer is of course below
This movie rules.
Estevez was the king of these types of movies back then. Young Guns, Mighty Ducks, Men at Work all not very good in an, as you said, “Oscar sense” but still awesome all the same.
I would hope that they would have some form of chemistry considering that they are brothers.
One of the best movies of all time.
Seriously.
When you know it will be bad, it’s a little easier to take.
I saw this a few times way way back in the early 90’s. Okay movie by crappy movie standards. Without a doubt Keith David steals the entire movie. I still remember my favorite lines from him:
“You never touch another man’s fries!”
“Rent-a-cops. I hate rent-a-cops, too!”
Great new feature Nattyb, it’s always great to see crappy movies that are awesome. Haven’t seen Men at Work so I’m downloading it as we speak (it’s legal in the Netherlands)
First crappy/awesome movie I thought of was “Blood In Blood Out” man I love that movie
I LOVED this movie back in the day. I’d got to see how well it holds up.
/golfclap, indeed!
