Fun With Alternate Universe Superhero Casting

THORRutger

Superhero movies work hard to find actors that are right for the various roles, and for the most part, I think they’ve done a pretty good job, at least looks-wise. Chris Hemsworth IS Thor, Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine, and so on, at this point.

But what if these movies were cast say, a few years earlier? Artist Alex Tuis has gone through and recast some of today’s most iconic superhero roles from stars that were bigger near the ’80s or earlier. Rutger Hauer makes for an awesome Thor above, and you can check out Harvey Keitel’s Wolverine, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Colossus and more below. His only modern day idea is Benedict Cumberbatch as the Joker, but I’m not sure I can get behind that.

  1. I think the story goes that James Cameron was gonna make an X-men movie in the 80’s with Bob Hoskins (of Roger Rabbit fame) to play Wolverine, but then someone showed Cameron the script for Spider-Man, and he tried to make that instead. Keitel would’ve been excellent though. Anyone who doesn’t think so, watch one of his scenes from “Taxi Driver” where he’s wearing a tanktop and you’ll see that the guy used to be ripped to shreds back when bodybuilding wasn’t even popular.
