Comic books have inspired movies for many years and seem to be increasing in popularity. The largest comic companies, Marvel and DC, have seen many of their comics be adapted not only for the big screen but for TV shows and games, such as those you can find on online casinos in Canada for example, as well. These are some of the top superhero movies of all time.

Avengers (2012) $1.519 billion

The first Avengers movies still tops the list of popular superhero movies. The Avengers features an all star cast not only in terms of superhero characters but talented actors as well. The cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Ruffalo. The director of SHIELD  (played by Jackson) seeks out the assistance of Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and Captain America to defeat the evil Loki from taking over the Earth.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) $1.405 billion

The long awaited sequel to the Avengers, takes the second spot. This time the evil Ultron, played by James Spader, is trying to prevent the Avengers’ efforts to defend the earth. Tony Stark and Bruce Banner have joined forces to restart a peacekeeping organization. Of course, the plan doesn’t go as anticipated and the Avengers are forced to again join forces to battle Ultron. As with the original Avengers movie, the same star studded cast returns.

Ironman 3 (2013) $1.215 billion

Avenger’s member, Ironman, is the subject of this movie. His alter ego and rich industrialist, Tony Stark, is portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr.  Returning cast from the previous movies include Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Stark’s assistant and love interest, Pepper. The plot of this movie sees the world hanging in the balance as an evil terrorist is bent on annihilating the planet. Stark is suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder following the horrific events he experienced from the “Avengers” movie while trying to head off this latest problem.

Captain America: Civil War (2016) $1.153 billion

The third film in a Captain America trilogy, the Avengers again prove to be popular with this latest release. In this film, the government seeks to put some regulations on the Avengers. This causes some derision amongst the superheroes with two factions. Tony Stark (Ironman) is the leader of the group in favour of regulations while Steve Rogers (Captain America) heads the other group who opposes any sort of oversight. The conflict becomes heated as the movie plot unfolds.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) – $1.084 billion

The third and final instalment of the Batman trilogy, this movie again stars Christian Bale in the title role. The supporting cast features talent like Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine. This film opens eight years following the events in the “Dark Knight”. With Gotham City on the brink of nuclear destruction, Bruce Wayne is forced to come out of retirement and once again take on the role of Batman.  Like the movie before it, the Dark Knight Rises easily grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.

2017 already looks to be another year for super hero movies with Wonder Woman slated to come out over the summer. Will this upcoming movie be successful enough to make this list? Stay tuned!
