Alcohol + Oblivion = Disaster: A Photo Essay

Published by under Video Games

oblivion_19

Drunken debauchery is even frowned on by the virtual police.

I found this on the forums over at Facepunch Studios today, and it’s one of the greatest things I’ve seen in some time. Apparently some guy got blackout drunk, stumbled into his house, and played some Oblivion. He didn’t remember any of it, but woke up to a save file time stamped four hours after his last known session. When he loaded the game to see what the hell he’d been up to, he was stunned to see what had happened.

If you want to read his accompanying commentary with the pictures go here, but the gallery (after the jump) speaks for itself. It’s best to view the pictures in order.

It’s Halloween once again, and every year a dedicated segment of nerds try to go to their favorite games for costume inspiration. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I’ll be focusing on the latter. Check out the gallery after the jump of the worst video game costumes I could find.

In Defense of Vanilla Sky, a Sci-Fi Movie

Published by under Movies

vanillasky.jpg

People hate Vanilla Sky.  I think a lot of that can be attributed to the “Tom Cruise is a psycho and he annoys me” factor, but I also think that a lot of people were caught off guard when they first saw this movie.  Vanilla Sky was marketed as a romance, but at its core, it’s a true sci-fi flick.  Sure, some of you may say, “I know it’s a sci-fi flick, Madison, and it still sucks,” and that’s fine.  It’s fine that your inability to grasp any concepts or themes that require you to fire off so much as single neuron in an attempt to create anything resembling an abstract thought prevents you from enjoying movies like Vanilla Sky.  But for those of us who are interested in the confrontation of immortality and using technology to extend and alter our lives and minds, Vanilla Sky is reminiscent of a classic Philip K. Dick story.  Read more after the jump:

5 Funny Clips from Sexy “Sport” Game Shows in Japan

Published by under Lists,Television

Hamu

It is my contention that either Japan is just light years ahead of us as far as Game Shows are concerned, or we just don’t have the brainpower to come up with some of the silliness involved in these things.  Well, at least we have “I Survived a Japanese Game Show.”

I mean have you guys seen some of the stuff they pull?  Bottom line is that when you involve sexuality, gratuitous genital hitting, disgusting food displays, and humongous sized obstacles (amongst plenty of others), in my eyes it’s just an automatic formula for success.  Most of these Japanese shows do just that.

But for the purposes of this article, I’d like to focus on the more sexy side of their game shows.  This would involve your girls in bikinis running around doing ridiculous stunts while guys sit back and laugh.

Enjoy these five clips

New Angels and Demons Trailer Reaffirms Hopes about Tom Hanks’ Hairstyle

Published by under Movies,News

tom_hanks_screenshot

I already have pretty much close to zero hopes for the upcoming Angels and Demons adaptation, but this new teaser trailer at least lets me know that Tom Hanks isn’t going to have some Nicolas Cage-like haircut like he did in the last movie.

The rest of it might completely suck ass, but at least I won’t be constantly wanting to attack the screen with scissors. The trailer is after the jump and Tom Hanks is set to start fighting statue-transmorphing demons in May 2009.

Unreal Man Crush: Six Kick-Ass Christian Bale Movie Roles

Published by under Movies

baleconnor.jpg

I think it’s pretty tough to dislike Christian Bale.  He’s played in some very cool roles throughout the years, and it looks like he’s going to be around for awhile.  Let’s take a look at some of the great characters that Bale has portayed, including the one who influenced an entire generation of Ivy League grads to embrace elitism and fake sociopathy.  Here are six of the coolest Christian Bale roles:

Happy Halloween from Unreality

Published by under Uncategorized

joker.jpg

Halloween is a great time of year.  Girls can dress up like sluts with total immunity, and I can dress like a woman without my father disowning me.  Here’s to a happy Halloween from us at Unreality, and please, I beg of you, don’t be like every other prick this year and dress as the Joker.  Girls, I’m willing to forgive Sarah Palin costumes if you show some cleavage.

Unreality’s Bastard of the Week: Duck Phillips

Published by under Television

duck_phillips

Name: Duck Phillips

Show: Mad Men

Occupation: Head of Accounts at Sterling Cooper

Interests: Second chances, alcohol, power, alcohol and mergers. And alcohol.

Dislikes: Don Draper

Why he’s our bastard: In the Mad Men season finale, Duck put the final touches on the underhanded merger he orchestrated between Putnam and Lowe and Sterling Cooper. He wormed his way into being named president, and announced that the agency would now be focused on buying and selling TV airspace.

At that point, Don stood up and declared that he sold products, not ad space, and announced his intentions to leave the company, resulting in some fist slamming from Duck. If his manipulations really do cause Don to leave Sterling Cooper, he’s even more of a bastard then we’re giving him credit for.

The Fallout 3 Journal: Day 1

fallout_3_3

What a wonderful world.

Fallout 3 scares me.

It’s not because I’m currently dragging myself around with one good arm and one good leg in the middle of a nuclear wasteland. It’s not because I’m being chased by someone with a gimp mask and an Uzi that looks like they want to eat my intenstine for a mid-morning snack. And it’s not because my “safe house” is a block away from an unexploded nuclear warhead.

It’s because I’ve been playing this game for five hours and I feel like I’ve done nothing.

The size and scope of Fallout 3 is simply astonishing. Like Bethesda’s last open worlder, Oblivion, the map is larger than anything you could possibly ever ask for, but the level of detail in the world is mind-blowing. It’s relatively easy to copy/paste forest and grass, but to assemble a society torn apart by nuclear war brick by radioactive brick? I imagine the development team of Fallout had to have been 10,000 programmers working 18 hour days to create something like this.

Last Remnant Released on November 20

Published by under Video Games

lrtitle.jpg

I’ve been waiting awhile for a good turn-based RPG to come out for consoles, and it looks like The Last Remnant will be worth that wait.  Sorry if I didn’t fellate Lost Odyssey like the rest of the world., but it just didn’t do it for me.  Here’s a look at some screenshots from the upcoming game, in which battles can involve up to 70 enemies.  This game looks pretty wild, especially with four-armed creatures and frog-like beings fighting in your party.  Eh, at least it’ll hold us over until Final Fantasy XIII, or “Exhibit A as to why I have no friends and my girlfriend cheats on me.”
