The Unreal Life: “The Wonders of Technology”

My time with Red Dead Redemption has drawn to a close, but I thought I’d make it the subject of my comic for this week.

Yes, it was annoying having people call you in GTA IV to hang out every two seconds, but in away, I think many times it was a good way to get to know the characters better. The problem was, it was practically required, because even if you didn’t want to do it, you would suffer a negative penalty for ignoring them, and it also didn’t help that all the activities they wanted to do were exceptionally mundane.

In a game like Red Dead, I actually think it would have been fun to go hunt elk with the Armadillo sheriff or wrangle horses with Bonnie MacFarlane. After you were done doing their missions, they more or less disappear from the face of the earth, and there’s really no way to get to know them any further or see most of them again. I wouldn’t have minded a bit more bonding time to make the world just that much more immersive.

Granted, all of these side activities should be optional, and you should be penalized for not partaking, but it’s just a thought for future games in the series.

Yes, I know bears were only in the forest, but I drew this before I got there.

  1. No shit, I hated those calls.
“You Nico, it’s Brucie, let’s go bang some chicks, bro!” Uhhhh, not now, I’m trying to rob some shit you douche. But yeah, it would be awesome if you could do those side activities in RDR for some extra cash and/or fame/honor.

On a side note: Multiplayer in RDR just keeps getting better & better.
