This is a rather cool, rather simple project that takes a map of the US, and matches up the most notable show that was filmed in each state. Now, some states are more fortunate than others, and what show is picked you might find questionable. Yes, there are a million shows set in California, but I don’t mind they’ve picked Baywatch to represent them.
As for my state? I’m proud to say that Freaks and Geeks was shot here in Michigan, as I think that’s one of the better selections listed. Nattyb in NYC has Seinfeld naturally, but some other states kind of get screwed. Missouri gets The John Larroquette Show? Colorado gets Mork and Mindy? Louisiana gets Billy the Exterminator? For those last two I would think you have to go with South Park and True Blood respectively.
What else should be changed on here?
It seems like there’s alot of the authors picks by favorites rather than most “notable” show. I would’ve expected Smallville for Kansas rather than Jericho. Also D.C. should probably be X-files. Home Improvement was a much bigger show than Freaks and Geeks even if Freaks is obviously far far superior in quality. CSI instead of Reno:911, CSI was the most watched show in the world for a couple years, so was House, though I can agree that Sopranos definitely deserves the nod over House. Maybe Dallas over Walker? Or does Chuck Norris win by default?
Also just wanted to point out that this isn’t where they were filmed but where they were set.
Breaking bad for new mexico !!
WTF is in plain sight, never heard of it
What about Prison Break or ER for Illinois?
Roseanne is quite possibly the worst show that could have ever been associated with the state of Illinois.
Colorado. Mork and Mindy? Come on. Definitely should be South Park.
I think Friends or Saturday Night Live could give Sienfeld a run for their money for New York.
Illinois could have Still Standing too, but Roseanne was definitely a bigger deal, even if it left a bad taste in the mouth for the state.
@guy incognito – I’m from Dallas, and Chuck Norris usually wins by default lol.
@ghuh – In Plain Sight is a crappy show on USA about a witness protection agent (I only know about it b/c of Pysch and Burn Notice)
Offshoot from this post: debate which state the Simpsons’ Springfield is in lol!
@Greg
Springfield is in North Takoma.
illinois should be married… with children. period.
House owns New Jersey. Seinfeld definitely gets NY. Breaking Bad should have New Mexico. I also think Baywatch is a lame choice for California considering how many shows are based there. 24 immediately comes to mind.
Also Dexter for Florida. Way better choice than the Golden Girls.
No love for Married—With Children? Same vibe as Roseanne, but a much better (and less annoying) show for Illinois.
And there is simply no debate about New Jersey, no show embraces the state more than the Sopranos…unless they go with Jersey Shore 😉
Apparently the guy didn’t use South Park because he did a movie map like this and it (the movie) was used for Colorado.
I wish they had used “King of the Hill” for Texas. It perfectly represents life as I know it.
Twin Peaks for Washington
Magnum PI for Hawaii
I agree with King of the Hill for Texas, or also Friday Night Lights. Both are damn near documentaries about the state where I’m from.

Didn’t know where to put this but I think you’d like it, Paul.
That 70’s Show is the most notable show to represent Wisconsin? Oh, HELL NO. One, it was on FOX, so it barely registered on the ratings meter. Two, it starred Ashton Kutcher. No. Just NO.
Have you forgotten that both Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley, two iconic, classic, TOP RATED TV shows both took place in Milwaukee?
For shame! Arthur Fonzarelli thinks you’re stupid-a-mundo.
@Anita
I didn’t know Happy Days was set in Wisconsin. It should definitely be the representative for that state.
The Gilmore Girls? I thought we would at least have Scrubs.
Minor argument with the article stating that these shows were filmed in these states. I highly doubt some of these sitcoms were filmed in the state they were set, but rather on a sound stage in California.
I also agree that IL should have been Married with Children.
