In the current race toward stupidity in the console wars right now (ie. adaptation of 3D and motion controls), we’re forgetting about what used to make us want to buy a new system. The graphics.
That selling point is getting left in the dust, and companies are set sticking with their current consoles for another four years because they’re introducing a bunch of stupid add-ons that cost half as much as a new console would anyway.
But what if they got their heads out of their asses and starting shooting for total realism once again? Well, this physics engine, which you can see above, is probably what games will look like years from now. How many years? It depends when we kick our motion control habit, but I’d say anywhere from 5-8. Yeah, it’s rather far, but no one seems to care about graphics at the moment, so it’ll take a few years for them to even notice this tech, and another few to actual be able to implement it.
