The Theatrical Trailers of 10 Sci-Fi Classics
As it turns out, the only good thing about Terminator Salvation is going to be its thoroughly awesome trailer, because despite it looking like it had potential, all signs point to a critical bomb.
It got me thinking about other sci fi flicks that actually did make it to legendary status, and if their trailers were similarly jaw-dropping at the time. I didn’t grow up in that time frame, so I guess you’ll have to tell me. The vast majority of them seem exceptionally campy, and the constant narration is often obtrusive, but I guess that’s just the way trailers used to work.
I think my favorite one is 2001, with the ridiculous award going to The Empire Stirkes Back (“All your favorites are back! Luke Skywalker! C-390! Chewbacca! And introducting Lando Calrissian!”).
Also, yes I consider Jaws sci-fi. No shark is that big.
