For ’90s Kids Like Me

If you’re like me and you grew up in the ’90s playing with Ninja Turtles action figures while watching Power Rangers as you sat next to your video cassette of Space Jam, your Goldeneye cartridge as you hummed “Hakkunah Matatah,” you’ll appreciate this post.

It’s an avalanche of nostalgia that will cause you to daydream away the better part of the afternoon as you long for your lost youth. Or at least it might make you go open that box of old toys in the basement.

The full image is way, way, way longer than the one you see above, and I’ve posted it below. Prepare for a flood of memories:

Oh and thanks to Things 90s Kids Realize for these amazing memories…

  1. Explain to me the part where The Turtles NEVER used their weapons.

I know they never used them on Human beings, but everything else was fair game. Except for poor Mikey who switched to a grappling hook.

  2. Damn. Some I don’t know ’cause I was in Holland for half of the 90’s!

I miss All That. And uh…Legends of the Hidden Temple, I couldn’t get enough of that.

  3. @ Candee

Then I hope you saw the series “Het beestenbos is boos” or “The Animals of Farthing Wood” I don’t know if it was popular in the USA, never seen a english reference to it but I really loved that series.

  4. This is the best post ever. I loved growing up in the nineties, also I can’t believe that there is no Pokemon! I miss the nineties when cell phones were bricks and Saturday cartoons had meaning!

  5. What?! Goosebumps were too scary! I nearly pissed my pants over one of them. (Granted, they seem ridiculous now, but when you’re ten, they’re sleep killers.)

  6. wow this is all true, right down to knowing all the disney tunes, my mom told me that me and my older brother used to watch alladin every day, if only it taught me how to make a time machine, hmmmm

  7. Mondo, and the drink with the little balls in it. Catdog was the nineties!?!?!?! I absolutely hated Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Loved: Kablam, Angry Beavers, Cow and Chicken. I can’t remember anything else off the top of my head.

  8. Ugh, this Postmodern Retro craze crap leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Terrible generalizations feeding off of mainstream culture. Values derived from any form of mass media make me sick.

  9. Little disappointed to not see Recess in here or Rocket Power which both made it in the 90’s….both pretty badass shows back then and how about Bobby’s World…?

  10. Anyone remember the show “History” cartoon by the same people who did tiny toons/pinky+the brain etc., also surprised, nothing from Tiny Toons, Animaniacs either.

  11. @Charlie: You’re kind of just projecting values on the shows since it’s all about the nostalgia of watching them, not what they taught. Except for Bill Nye, and he taught facts, not morals. Stop being such a crotchety curmudgeon.

    Great nostalgic moments, wow.

  12. This is so awesome. Unbelievable, gawd it was like yesterday. You forgot how hard it was to get a Power Rangers figure. Remember that? I think a mother threw another mother…for a piece of plastic!

  13. My god…now, I honestly feel old. Half the kids in grade eight wouldn’t even know what Barney was really like. Or Sesame Street. Hell, the kids in grade eleven barely even know the love for the Fresh Prince. Very disappointing how media is changing children’s shows. I have to say, Dora the Explorer is a really fucking stupid show and they should bring back the goddamn cookie monster!!

All I have to say next is…MOOOJOOOO JOJO!

  14. Prepare for an epic (-ly long) ’90s yarn Paul. Hope you reply cause I’m really feeling the nostalgia with ya, Man!

Anyway, back in the day I remember when Nintendo cartridges at KB Toys in the Sandusky Mall (OH) were three dollars. My Uncle had been jazzing me up to purchase Metroid (at the time I thought that was Samus’ name and that Samus was a robot, haha). But each time Ray and I got a chance to go to the mall I had to stop at the arcade first and ‘accidentally’ blow all his money on ONE game! That game was Primal Rage, possibly the greatest dinosaur fighting game (are there others???) ever with graphics that I dare say would still look perfectly fine today and an awesome snake/raptor dino that I always liked to play (unfortunately it was not included in the still awesome Sega Game Gear port of Primal Rage). One day I did manage to direct us to KB Toys first, but Metroid was unavailable. My consolation, Mega Man 6 (I liked how he was flying with two ‘red toilet seats’ as a jetpack on his back… not kidding check a cart scan) was a delightful addition to my old NES library.

Another of my nineties memories involves the Tv shows I used to watch. Does anyone remember Reboot, Tailspin, Rescue Rangers, Beast Wars, that cartoon with the dinosaur aliens that turned into actual dinosaurs, Street Sharks, The Busy World of Richard Scary, Gula Gula Island, Alegra (Oh, and Face on Nick Jr.) Clarissa Explains it All, Pete and Pete, Ghost Writer, Shelby Woo, Goose Bumps (when I heard about the books being made on TV I freaked!), Spider-Man (on Fox Kids), Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Highlander (the cartoon), that Roswell cartoon about the half alien teen with the psychic power glove, Mighty Max, American Gladiators, Denis the Menace, Problem Child, Weekenders, G.I. Joe, Transformers (if I woke up really early), Wildcats, The Tick, Earthworm Jim, both Sonic Cartoons, Super Mario Bros., Gumby, Action Man, Tales from the Crypt, The Outer Limits, Strange Stories, Pepper Ann, Beetleborgs, that show where this Japanese guy put on shades to become a giant Power Ranger type guy to fight giant monsters, The Mantis, The Flash, Robocop the Series, that show with the bug Power Ranger type guy (which incidentally had a crossover with Power Rangers to reveal Alpha the robot and he were from the same planet), that video game gameshow, Giligans Island, Scooby-Doo, The Phantom, The Mighty Ducks, Godzilla, Real Monsters, Men in Black, Arthur, Reading Rainbow (“I can go anywhere! On a reading rainbow! Reading rainbow! Reading Rainbow!)?
SORRY about that big and mostly substanceless run-on but that’s probably every 90’s show I can remember that hasn’t already appeared in the article or comments so far (just had to see how much I could remember. How many do our memories have in common?

These are the video games that I had in the 90s:

    NES:

Abadox, Castlevania, Demon Sword, Dr. Mario, Fisher Price I Can Remember, T&C Surf Productions, Gauntlet II, Jurassic Park, Karate Kid, Mega Man 6, Ninja Gaiden, Puzznic, R.C. Pro-Am, Rocket Ranger, Sesame Street Big Bird’s Hide and Speak (awesome because Big Bird talked and the other characters did neat victory animations), Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros. 2, The Simpsons Bartman Meets Radioactive Man (rented, and DAMN BLACK HOLE!… that is all), Battle Toads & Double Dragon (rented)

    SNES:

Super Mario World, Doom, some Looney Toons game, Wheel of Fortune, A Link to the Past, all of the Super Star Wars games, some really horrible Packman adventure game (stupid slingshot), Harvest Moon (addicting, but had to give it back to my brother’s friend), Robocop vs. Terminator, some Star Trek game, Alien 3, Star Fox, some awesome 3D transforming mech game akin to Star Fox graphics, Animaniacs, Real Monsters, Donkey Kong Country

Briefly on Gameboy (before my parents told me one of my neatest Christmas presents was crap and made me get a Sega Game Gear at Sears instead):

Metroid II (which I reaquired a few years ago and it is a pretty neat game)

    Sega Game Gear:

Primal Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog, Batman Forever

    N64:

Super Mario 64, Star Wars Shadows of the Empire, Turok I and II, Castlevania 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Mischief Makers, Glover, Goldeneye 007, Star Fox 64, Mario Cart 64

Yes the ’90s. Captain Peanut Butter Crunch and good times (not saying there weren’t some bad ones too, just that these are some of the ones we can all look back on with nostalgia).
Reply if you’re felling the nostalgia!

  15. The Ninja Turtles used their weapons in the first episode when the Foot Soldiers were robots, but they weren’t allowed after that because it would have promoted violence or some such– it was kind of retarded, thinking back on it. They weren’t allowed to do anything but beat on people (which is pretty violent in and of itself) but it never left room for blood and decapitation, so I guess it’s fine.

  16. I always thought Rocket Power was a great show. Along with Blues Clues(w/ the original Steve) & Big Comfy Couch rounded out the fav’s in my home.

I still find myself humming the “Planet song” from Blues Clues periodically. Ahh…nostalgic for those days.

  17. Ok. So you all completely forgot Thunder Cats (even though I hated that show), He Man, and the SMURFS… 0-0

    ALSO

Best show in my childhood opinion – Swat Katz

  18. Shit, Well (*3), I can’t believe I forgot those (especially He-Man, because I totally had his brand plastic armor and sword shouting, “I have the POWER!” in my underwear when I was three). Also, I forgot Double Dragon, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Creepy Crawlers, Tin Tin, Fantastic Four (“Call the Four! The Fantastistic Four!”), Darkwing Duck, Duck Tails, and the Quack Pack (really odd how I would forget so many duck cartoons).

  19. Oh my god, this is the most amazing thing I have ever seen… for you fools who don’t know Kerry Weaver, I pity you. I also really enjoyed the Big Comfy Couch… and jelly shoes. Remember those sparkly, plastic, blister inducing shoes? I do, all too fondly. Thanks for this.

  20. @aces Do I detect anti-evolutionism? I find that’s the most common reason for finding Bill Nye to be an “asshole”

But in all fairness, Beakman could out entertain and out science Bill Nye any day of the week. Zaloom!

  21. Holy crap I hadn’t thought of some of this stuff in years. Looking back I had never realized the Pulp Fiction reference in Space Jam it has been way too long since I’ve seen that movie. Both of them actually.

  22. Wow these take me back I still have almost all the goosebumps books today and some of the tv series. Actually I have a lot this stuff on DVD now. The 90’s were fantastic to bad the 2000’s haven’t lived up tot the 2 previous decades before.

I watched most of this stuff growing up and now my kids watch some of this stuff today.

  23. none of this was a surprise to me. “why” you may ask? because i’m still in the 90s. i’m on 34th ave between pix’s gas station and harrium’s diner. you won’t see me but i’ll see you, but you MUST HURRRRRRRR-

  24. omg. i remember like all of this. now a days all the cool cartoons have sicko violence in them. Happy Tree Friends?? that’s some sick sick stuff. What happened to the funy cartoon violence. now they’re trying to make everything realistic for lil beasts of childhood. cus come on. we are, well were. designers of today are just feeding that to today’s pre teen generation. what happened to the simple stuff? wtf happened? :/

  25. Wow the 90’s were awesome. I am from the UK and the only thing which would be different for us is a show called Knightmare, they picked the stupidest kids for that show.

    Great article.

  26. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Childhood memories flooding my cynical adult mind. Loved all of it except for you comparing Community to Saved by the Bell. Community is fuckin GENIUS!

  27. I bought Oregon Trail because I loved it so much, lol! I could never solve it though. I think I still have it somewhere. The 90’s was truly divine! Legends of The Hidden Temple was THE GREATEST! Lol. This made me smile, thank you.

  28. I will admit.
Bill Nye is responsible for a good 20-30% of all of my scientific knowledge. But go to a science class now! Middle school kids sleep and text through the video! Show that same video to a college class and you wont hear it over the cries of ‘ HELL YEAH BILL NYE!” and then you get to sing along with the theme song without judgement.

  29. Jelly sandals made my feet blister and sweat. Skip-it made me tear up my knee tripping over it. Pete & Pete’s ‘Halloweenie’ episode was the best ever. The Nightmare Before Christmas left me conflicted as to whether I was scared or not. I thought I was hot shit in my multi-colored neon roller blades at the rink. Windows 95 and PowerPoint presentations made me feel like an intellectual.

  30. Ma-Ti taught Arturo Gatti how to get up from a Micky Ward left hook to the body. Can’t do that shit with Earth, wind, fire, or water now can you bitch!

  31. You also forgot Hey Dude, You Can’t Do That On Television, Clarissa Explains It All, What Would You Do, California Dreams,
Rocko’s Modern Life, Double Dare, David the Knome, GhostWriter, Blossom, Today’s Special(might of been 80’s), America’s Funniest Home Videos w/ Bob Saget of course, even tho he was corny, and lastly and Welcome Freshman (think that’s the right name). Anyway thanks for the memories!

  32. Welcome Freshman!!! Oh god these cracked me up, though. And, The Beets are definitely the best fiction band of all time. I miss the 90s shows. I hardly even watch TV now, it just does not compare at all.

  33. My absolute FAVORITE show when i was a lil guy was called “Mask”… it was a cartoon where these guys fought crime and each one had a different helmet/mask that had special abilities… anyone else remember that?

  34. Oh my gosh! The nostalgia! D:

I miss those days so much sometimes, when the most important thing was waking up early on Saturday morning to watch cartoons. And I have this sudden urge to see if I can’t watch Doug or Bobby’s World online. Also LOVED Recess, Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, Rugrats, and Magic School Bus.

And Sonic the hedgehog. Good memories there. For some reason I was drawing him in my notes today during zoology.

  35. pffft. I lived off of Fox Kids, KidsWB, K-Cal 9 and UPN 13 Sunday morning cartoons.. We didn’t have all that “cat dog” “rugrats” and Nickelodeon stuff… just good old Stunt Dawgs, EEK! The cat, Spider-man, Superman, Batman, X-Men… all the GOOD stuff. Nickelodeon had crap for brains in the cartoons department. I used to go to my buddies house just to see what it was all about, then I seen Doug and realized how much better BASIC channels were.
My ears kept trying to shit out my brain after watching Rugrats.

VIVA LA TAZ-MANIA! VIVA LA MUPPET BABIES! VIVA LA DUCK TAILS! VIVA LA 90S! AND DOWN WITH BONKERS/DARKWING DUCK/MARSUPILAMI!

  36. What about hey arnold!!! These were great times… And the land before time movies???Guts was my favorite show… i always wished i could go on it!!!lol

  37. The stripes gum was only a disappointment because the flavor last maybe 5 mins, but otherwise it tasted great, and technically the gum was designed specifically for kids who attention span was about 5 mins and that all the gum needed to last for. I do agree that Oregon Trail was the most awesome computer game of elementary school, actually it was the only thing u could do on those computers besides Paint.
Of course I find it hard to believe Furbies didn’t show up here, I remember my first Furby, the best thing in the world, (then); and when I got to high school I gave my furby a proper death. With new batteries in it and it awake I placed it in a fire and burned it, my Furby couldn’t have been more happy as it said “YIPPEE!!!! PARTY!!!!”
Along with Beanie Babies! I think I still have over 50; that or Pokemon with Ash; The Original GameBoy, yes the big gray brick that was indestructible, you could hit the pause button, hit your younger sibling on the head and then keep playing, every time I start to miss my childhood, I pull out my old gameboy put in Kirby Pinball and play for awhile.

  38. This is good stuff; so nostalgic. It’s funny because I talk about being a kid in the 90’s with my friends all the time. Thank you for reminding me about book orders. And you’re absolutely right about cereal being an important part of life, I used to hate school lunch so bad that I would demand the lunch lady give me one of those little carton of breakfast cereals (Cinnamon Toast Crunch when I was lucky), I annoyed her so much that sometimes she wouldn’t give it to me, so I would have to sneak in and steal some.

But you missed some things like, the Wonder Years and Disney Channel Movies (Brink, Paper Brigade, First Kid, Summertime Switch, Escape to Witch Mountain, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century.

“Zoom zoom zoom, and my heart goes boom boom, my supernova girl.”

You forgot Bug Juice too; the first reality show for kids. Oh yeah and WMAC Masters, the kung fu show that used to come on on Saturday mornings before wrestling.

Thank you for bringing up Oregon Trail. Remember when they upgraded it? I used to hum that song all the time. I never made it to Oregon; I would always die of rickets or get bit by a snake.

One more thing, you forgot Allen Strange on Nickelodeon. The show with the Alien boy who was madd smart. Hey Arnold was the greatest cartoon of all time. And I’m a guy but I wanted an easy bake oven so I could make cake and brownies and eat all day.

  39. Damn..This is uncanny every reference to a show that i recognized was spot on when it came to describing my opinion towards it. LOL Angel Grove is the worst town ever.

  40. Ok seriously people. For those that are saying stuff like “Thundercats” and “Jonny Quest”, do any of you have any idea what you’re talking about? Do you realize that what you watched in the 90’s are actual reruns from the 80’s and the 60’s? Also, for those of you who were born half-way through the decade, your memories of the 90’s don’t overlap for more than a third of your current lives. The fact that people who were born in 95 can now drive is somewhat hard to accept. But please don’t sit there and tell me you remember watching stuffy like Reboot, Doug, and Rocket Power when it first came out in the 90’s. Those shows came out either before 95 and continued until 98, or (stuff like Rocket Power) it came out in 99 and continued until 2004. Seriously, you have very very few memories of watching this stuff at the age 2 or 3. What you remember most likely is watching reruns which makes you think you remember watching this in the 90’s. Hey, one of my better friends (passed away a year ago) remembers his brothers who were born in the 90’s = 1890’s. What is my point? I don’t have one, I’m bored like the rest of you and saw this article while browsing for something else to cure my boredom.

    1. Thundercats may have been reruns, but Johnny Quest had a new series during the 90’s called the Real Adventures of Johnny Quest. It was pretty awesome back in the day.

  41. what about “AHHH-REAL MONSTERS?” and powerpuff girls? come on now real monsters was the sh**. Man I seriously miss the old days.. Wish i could go back.

  42. Gumby and Tin tin.

    And Arthur (A-A-R-D-V-A-R-K)

I feel weird for coming back to this website to make another post. It all began when I was looking for pics of Mila Kunis; look at me now.

    The Famous Jett Jackson
    Cousin Skeeter
    Shelby Woo (rare)
Even Stevens (When Shia Lebouf was funny)
Taina (remember her becuz I used to think she was dope)
Puff Daddy and the Family (lol)

Figure it Out – Danny and Mary Beth would always guess right on the last chance; they were pricks for ruining those kids’ dreams

TRL – It meant something then
MTV Spring Break (I loved that time of the year)
Jerry Springer, Jenny Jones, Ricki Lake (I was young but so what)

    Pokemon Red and Blue

Pokemon Cards – They’re crooks; they made me believe those cards would be worth something.

  43. beets def best animated band dr. teeth best fictional. sadly pete&pete only had one season. ahhh real monsters, beamans world, kablammm, clarissa explains it all, hey dude, salute your shorts, liquid tv….damn i miss the 90’s!!

  44. what about home improvement, Dinosaurs and teen angel? no ones mentioned those but they were awesome too. I’m 18 but I still hit my dad and shout “Not the mama!” when I get the chance.

  45. There were a few good things about the ’90’s:

Best president (we thought at the time he was irresponsible – but we had NO idea what a bad president was yet)

Some decent music (Jane’s Addiction, NIN, Korn’s first CD) but also some of the worst (everything else: collective soul, counting crows, wallflowers, googoo dolls, and on and on)

Some of the best films ever made (Schindler’s List, Se7en, Pulp Fiction)

…but mostly I remember you little fairies running around with pogs and slap-bracelets and saying “fly” and “fresh” and “Audi 5000”

    So proud.

  46. The Pogs were so awesome! I remember my mom used to buy ’em for me and my sister, along with Pokemon cards =) (I was born in ’93). Dang, do I miss the good old days when kids were just kids! For every jump rope and bottle of bubbles we had, kids nowadays have an iPod Touch with their parents’ credit card hooked up to iTunes. I miss the simpler times :'( . While we were just lying in the backyard with our Super Soakers in hand on a hot summer day, kids nowadays sit in front of a TV with Call of Duty and their A/C cranked up. Back in the 90’s, your friends actually had to come over for you to have fun. Now, kids just turn on their headsets, doing most of their peer-to-peer interaction over a Wifi connection. I had 90’s fever, and I’m assuming everyone else here had it too! I find solace in the fact that I can share my 90’s experiences with other people like you guys =)

  47. Def Swat Kats was the best. I only see one other person reallt remembers them. Those guys mortal kombat and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for SEGA (and the game 7-up had if anyone else ever played that) basically encompasses the entirety of my life in the 90’s.

  48. Pogs should DEFINITELY be on here. I wanted some, but my family was always on the poor side of middle class and my mom wasn’t going to pay for bits of cardboard.

I wanted to be on “Legends of the Hidden Temple” SO FREAKIN’ BAD.

And of course, the easiest way to know you’re a ’90s kid? When something doesn’t work, you blow in it. I actually fixed our Wii the other day doing that!

TV shows used to be so much better. What’s with the s*** nowadays?! Someone needs to make a cable channel – all ’90s shows, all the time. Nick at Nite isn’t cutting it. I love “The Nanny” but I really want “Family Matters” and “Step by Step” and “Dinosaurs.” And of course, the ultimate, “Boy Meets World.” “Home Improvement” was a staple in my house – we called my dad “Tim” every time he tried to do something and messed it up (which was often). And the educational shows! “Magic School Bus,” “Wishbone,” “Carmen Sandiego”….I mean it, I learned to love classic literature from “Wishbone” (and their version of “Great Expectations” was WAY better than the actual book). I need those on DVD so I can make my kids watch them someday.

  49. Does anyone remember Clarissa Explains it all? I think this post is amazing and I have to say when I saw the scholstic book order it was like a time warp.
You should all check out TeenNick if you have it. They are airing all the old shows, Doug, Rugrats, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, Legends of the Hidden Temple etc check your listings. Check it out and keep the nostalgia going. Love all my 90’s family.

  50. The lack of Bobbys world is a disappoint 🙁

I must say though, Miss Frizzle, Bill Nye, Beakmen, Wishbone and Carmen Sandiego actually taught me much of my schooling back in the day.

    /sigh

Despite all the uncalled for angst and the crack epidemic…and the AIDS, and those damn gap commericials, 90s was the best era. Second to the 20s, where you can shoot in clubs and smack your bitch around and no one would say anything.

Oh wait, you can have done that in the 90s too. In colour!

    1. Technically he’s purple. You’re the colorblind one. But in case you didn’t notice, there’s a black guy next to Barney in that part of the image. A black guy wore the Barney costume for a while.

  51. Great list. A few more…

You grew up in the 90s if you remember…

    – watching the news without tickers
    – taking the Iowa Test
    – “Give me a break, give me a break…”
    – when Lunchables were cool and not nasty processed junk
    – the Y2K scare
    – when parents gave their teens Chicken Soup books
    – Goosebumps
    – when the 49ers were really good
    – being in the BK Kids’ Club

  52. God… This made me have major flash backs und if this didn’t make you cry or freaking depressed out your mind, idk who you are but obviously didn’t really appreciate those days.

  53. Moment of nostalgia taken in. If you know what I’m talking about, then you’ll understand.

Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, START

    and

(Guard), Down, up, up, (Release guard) X.

  54. My goodness, so many memories flashed back in my mind. This is one of the best things I’ve seen on the internet in awhile.

Can’t believe you forgot X-Men. Maybe the dopest cartoon of all time but I ain’t mad, great article.

But here’s a couple i hope yall remember

Boy Meets World: Topanga was that sh*t!! So fine

Arcarde..the Nickelodeon video game show…i always swore i would beat everyone’s a$$ on that show…

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with Kit (who remembers Kit??), GoldenEye, Mario Brothers and Mario Brothers 3, Mario Kart = Best Video Games Ever

Tale Spin, DuckTales, The Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck, Resuce Rangers..chip chip chip chip and dale…..man, cartoons today can’t touch this

Someone above mentioned Ricki Lake…wow, loved that show

    I Am Weasel…I R Baboon!! great show

Wild N Crazy Kids…great show…I was always looking for them in my city and mall…LOL

David the Gnome….haha, great show…take care of each other and nature lol

The Adventures of Pete and Pete…hmmm, I’m the strongest man alive….

Remember Parker Can’t Lose….lets synchronize watches

Who remembers the knock off or the original, can’t remember who came first…but VR Troopers….hahaha….I’ll take Power Rangers any day…

I’m so glad someone mentioned this above because I couldn’t remember it….Busy World of Richard Scary….i always watched this

And the Goofy Movie was the sh*t!!

  55. (previously the nostalgic Glass2099)

Nick Arcade, so that was what it was after all this time. I loved it so much in the early morning, wishing I could play with those kids.

Three shows I really wish I could watch right now are:

Life with Louie (really could use this show right now. I feel like tearing up)

    Bobby’s World

Oliver Twist the animated series (“The work-house master’s tired of this. You better watch out young Oliver Twist…” the main theme went something like that, and oliver twist was a dog and his friend the Artful Dodger a rabbit)

  56. beets:i need more allowance yodellayhee, why because i do!
i didnt know urkel was the voice of sonic until now.
we made madden nfl famous too.
yeah i agree they forgot pogs too.
i feel like comic book guy.

  57. apparently none of you remember the 90’s, or you would be remembering POGS

    Freakin’ POGS people!!!!!!

and yes, the drink with the balls in them, the short lived but awesome (ahead of its time) CLEAR pepsi, and also “Kids Incorporated”, the mickey mouse club, Jessie( the weird, always incoherent mtv VJ), Not to mention kurt loder, or mtv news in general, the ORIGINAL buffy the vampire slayer with donald sutherland, the movie TEEN WITCH, and for gods sake, luke perry, beverly hills, 90210 anyone?

    oh yeah, and POGS!!!!!!!

coolats (half skirt half shorts), Teva sandals, JELLIES sandals, Paperboy, GAMEBOY, GAK, Floam, double dare and getting slimed, not to mention pied in the face, wild and crazy kids, growing pains, saved by the bell when they had MISS BLISS, YM and sassy magazine, baby soft perfume, my god, why wasn’t i chosen to make this list?

    am i right or what
    oh yeah…

    POGS!

  58. I honestly can’t remember pogs. Besides, I was way, way too consumed with Beast Wars toys, Goosebumps and Animorph books, comic books, and those ~8-inch tall Marvel Comics action figures when writing my birthday and Christmas wishlists to be concerned with whatever pogs are.

Marvel Comics action figures I had: Spiderman, Venom, Doc Oc, Lizard, Vulture, Hob Goblin, Iron Man, War Machine, Mandarin, Cyclops, Wolverine, Archangel, Silver Surfer, Human Torch

smaller ones: Ghost Rider, Incredible Hulk/Bruce Banner, Gray Hulk, Apocalypse, Beast, Doctor Doom, Iron Man (again).

I love my childhood and am perplexed just how little any of my much younger siblings cares about toys (they’re much more into video games, Facebook, and tablets not caring to trifle with such ‘olde’ things). I wish they could have seen these neat parts of the ’90s with fresh eyes.

  59. Does anyone else remember the Wonder Ball? Best candy ever!
I remember my first Pokemon card: a Pikachu!
    gargoyles was an awesome cartoon.
    Animorphs was wicked.
I remember watching the wild thornberries from underneath a blanket tent in the living room 🙂
Thanks so much for this- I wanna go back!
    Original 151 forever!!!

  60. Thanks for a trip down memory lane!

Only two things that I would wish to add – Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Count Duckula (I realise this started in the late 80s but it ran through half the 90s so definitely counts!)

It may be different in the USA, but in the UK – does anyone remember the pc game Granny’s Garden? Or Galleon – which my school used to teach us our multiplication tables?

I remember watching Who’s Afraid of the Dark with my (younger) sister and both of us trying desperately not to be scared but failing almost every time. And Keenan & Kel drove my Dad up the wall.

I remember collecting Pogs, although I don’t think I knew what to do with them, and tamagotchis and nano pets. My furby genuinely freaked me out. Kitty kitty kittens that rattled when you shook them to simulate purring, and Pound Puppies. I wanted to be an Animorph.

Sharkey & George anyone? The best theme tune ever.

  61. I’m 50 years old, so therefore the pop culture of the 1970s would be relevant to me, including such cliches as The Brady Bunch and 70s bubblegum music. However, I was surprised at how familiar all these were, since these were my children’s pop culture references. They didn’t have TV in their rooms, so our living room set always had Nickelodeon on. My husband and I always like spooky anthology shows and actually liked Are You Afraid of the Dark.

  62. Bill Nye is so not an asshole! I’ve met him and he was incredibly nice. AND he was wearing a bowtie!

When we’re old and there are virtual reality simulations that let you live in any time/place, I’m going straight back to the ’90s and never leaving.

    1. I miss those. To make up for it I get several Kinder Eggs any time I’m in Canada. Same basic thing, just egg shaped. And illegal in the US for stupid reasons.

  63. I agree with Lexi. I used to watch Chalk Zone, The Mighty B! and Hey Arnold. I haven’t watched an Old School Nick Show Or any show from the 80s/90s since I was 11 years of age. In that year, I watched Ducktails, The Snorks and Shirt Tales. But 1989 was a long time ago. Those are my only 3 80s Shows I Remember.

  64. I agree with Mike. I watch The Amanda Show too. Because I really like Amanda Benes and all her roles of action including the Moody’s Point specials. The favorite of all Amanda Show sketches is Melody Warbel and Thad. They are bad restaurant singers. I also like Amada’s Jacuzzi and Blockblister. To Qoute Amanda Benes: We’ll be back in a second to do stuff!!!

  65. aww, the sweet nostalgia is deafening. The group of friends that came over to watch me play the very first Resident Evil. When WCW took the charts on Monday night all thanks to the now absent cruiserweight division . Wolverine got his ass beat a lot only because they couldn’t depict graphic images of him impaling human victims. Spawn was an idol in the comic universe. Sneaking out of my bedroom early in the morning to see which new games were on sega channel. DUKE NUKEM WAS A GOD and Seinfeld was the best sitcom… is still the best sitcom in Television history. Who else went around school halls yelling ‘SUCK IT!!” and outlining their junk, haha. Somehow we got away with it. Poor kids these days. We are the last remaining HELLA RAD TUBULAR HANG LOOSE DUDES! \mn/

  66. Thank you for making me laugh soo hard…I miss my childhood.I hate how we all had big dreams only to grow up and have the world kick us in the face.

  67. the fact is though even though a lot of us watched ren and stimpy when we were kids we grow up and we realize that it was not for kids at all but then you love it even more
