Crappy Must See Movie Recommendation of the Week: Solarbabies
Wow. I 100% completely forgot about the movie Solarbabies. This is pre anything futuristic and crazy technology. This is pre all of the stuff we see right now. And honestly, I’m not sure this movie was precursor to anything. It’s just fun to say these things. Anyway, here’s the movie and what it’s about.:
In a future in which most water has disappeared from the Earth, we find a group of children, mostly teenagers, who are living at an orphanage, run by the despotic rulers of the new Earth. The group in question plays a hockey based game on roller skates and is quite good. It has given them a unity that transcends the attempts to bring them to heel by the government.
Finding an orb of special power, they find it has unusual effects on them. They escape from the orphanage (on skates) and try to cross the wasteland looking for a place they can live free as the stormtroopers search for them and the orb.
What’s totally badass about this movie is that it stars Jasoc Patric and Jamie Gertz. What more do you need in an 80s movie? And Lucas Haas as a kid? Awesome. Charles Durning plays the warden! This movie owns.

Wow, this is brutal.
I remember watching this when I was a kid. I’ve been trying to figure out, what was the movie’s name and I was never able to remember / hunt down what it was. SOLARBABIES. I wouldn’t in a million years recognize that name unless there had been a trailer or description attached. Thank you, my search is over.
hang on – is this the same movie with a weird table thing that shows people holographic images of their worst fears??? If so, I’ve wanted to know what that was called for years :p
Not to mention some sweet Don LaFontaine voiceover work.
It’s on Netflix (if you still have an account). Watched it for the first time in years, classic, but would not say it’s crappy.
