Fear the Skeleton Bar

Skeleton Bar

If you’re a fan of any of the Alien movies that you sure as hell might be a fan of The Skeleton Bar.  This bar (officially called Museum) was designed by HR Giger, the same designer from the Alien films for which he received multiple awards, and it is located in Gruyere, Switzerland.

Honestly I’m curious.  Would you guys feel comfortable in a place like this?  I think I’d be in awe for a few minutes and think to myself “if there are any regulars in this bar then I think I gotta get the hell out of here.”

Anyone who’d spend most of their days in that place have to have serious emotional issues.  Amazing structure though.

  1. really looks great! i’d be in for a drink or two, but i think this is a have-seen-once-and-never-get-back-in-there ^^
imagine the people, who work there. are they costumed like aliens or skeletons?

  2. i’ve been there some years ago. it was pretty damn cool. the skeleton bar is located inside a medieval castle complex (the Château de Gruyere) which also added to the atmosphere.

There also was an exhibition of HR Giger’s work in another part of the castle. The live-sized alien (from the first movie) hanging from the ceiling almost gave me a heart attack when I entered the exhibition hall 😉

  3. This is a really great bar, I’ve been there quite a few times as I live like 80km away from it :)))

You can have more information there:

Drinks are normal, nothing with strange/sucpicious colours, nor smoke coming out of your glasses.
But after a few galsses of local Absinthe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe) you can start being freaked in there 🙂

Anyone planning a trip to Switzerland, don’t hesitate to visit, it definitely worth it.

  4. yeah, i’ve been there a couple of times too (living 60km away from it 🙂 )

one visit was particularly great: aside from the ultra cool skeleton bar and the HG Giger showroom the castle featured a pretty big and impressive exposition of Tolkien/LotR related original artwork by John Howe.

yes, it was a nerd’s dream come true 🙂
