Casting Choices for Captain Marvel Other Than Katee Sackhoff

Captain Marvel

For the record, there were/are a lot of versions of Captain Marvel. I’m personally glad that Marvel (the comic peeps) decided to run with the Carol Danvers version for the upcoming film. She is by and large more interesting and relatable than say the Kree who started it all, Captain Mar-Vell. (Kree is an alien race – see Guardians of the Galaxy – Ronan the Accuser or Korath the Pursuer) I seem to have one qualm with the announcement of this film, it’s coming out in July of 2018, well after Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the Avengers Infinity War 1. If anything I would have switched Dr. Strange and Captain Marvel around so that she could make cameo appearances within the upcoming films and really bring everything together in one cohesive mashup! Sorry, did I lose you? Ok, let me back track a bit and explain a few things before we proceed with the casting.

It’s simple, Captain Marvel is Marvel Comic’s version of Wonder Woman with a cosmic twist. Originally named Ms. Marvel, then later taking up the name Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers has been involved in many comic book series. From Spiderman, the Avengers and even the X-Men, Danvers has shown up a time or two in many ways. One of those being as the character Binary in the Uncanny X-Men. When she was Binary she was given the ability to draw cosmic power from what was called the “white hole” that allowed her to basically kick ass in more ways than you can imagine. I bring this up solely because when a chic can generate her own star, manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum, gravity and even travel at light speed I’d dare say that she would blend seamlessly in with Guardians or the Infinity War. I’m pumped that Marvel is finally going to move forward with a film that has a woman as the primary protagonist and who better than Carol?

Now this could all come crashing down if they don’t cast the right chica for the role. Quite frankly, I’m disappointed at the lack of creativity I’ve found on the internet because it seems like everyone is in overwhelming favor of Katee Sackhoff for the part?! I’ll admit that she was perfect as Starbuck in the re-imagining of Battlestar but I don’t think she has the look or personality traits to pull of Carol Danvers character. No, I think that some of the ladies I’ve listed below would do far better with the part of Captain Marvel. Plus I’m always right about these things so everyone on the internet should obviously listen to me. *chuckles to himself

Tricia Helfer

Tricia Helfer

Funny how I say one Battlestar person won’t work but this one would. I’ve seen Tricia in other roles and feel that she has a much better look to her and versatile acting chops that exceed anything that Katee could ever hope to achieve.

Rosamund Pike

Rosamund Pike

I would’ve dismissed her completely if I hadn’t seen Gone Girl. Granted I think that her performance in that Bond movie shows that she’s got the ability to play action hero, I didn’t think she could give a proper “acting” performance till Fincher showed me the light. She definitely has it in her to give Carol the importance she deserves.

Yvonne Strahovski

Yvonne

I’ve seen her picked a few times but really, if there was one girl that could be cast strictly from looks alone – Yvonne Strahovski would easily fit the bill. As an added bonus if you’ve ever watched an episode of Chuck, then you should know she’s got the agile ability to do some serious comic book action hero sh*t while looking good in tight leather.

Abbie Cornish

Abbie Cornish

A solid “up and comer”, I think that Abbie Cornish definitely needs some consideration. Sweet Pea from Sucker Punch was one of my more favored characters of that film and I think that she also put forth a solid effort in the latest reboot of RoboCop. If anything I’d feel comfortable enough with her that I’d throw her the role simply to see what she could do with it.

Alice Eve

Alice Eve

Come on, someone throw this poor girl a better role. She can be something other than someone who is simply in the film only for her to strip down to her skimpies. I would call her my “gamble #1” because I’m not sure if she has the ability to carry an entire film on her shoulders.

Maggie Grace

Maggie Grace

I’m always on the look out for people that could break loose at any moment. (I say that as if I’m an actual casting director hint hint Hollywood) Given the right role, which Carol Danvers could potentially be, I think Maggie Grace has an abundance of talent ready to go. Granted I couldn’t wait for her to die in LOST, but in the tiny roles I’ve seen her in since, I’ve come to like her more and more.

Again, I’ve gone a completely different route than what I found online. I don’t want to copy all the other “castings” out there and try and show the versatile actresses out there that could easily take up the mantle of Captain Marvel. How do the Unrealtors feel about any of these leading ladies? Would you have any others to add to the list? How about Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, or maybe even Elisha Cuthbert? Are you even looking forward to the Captain Marvel movie? Let me know in the comments!

    1. Heck no it’s not petty at all – I’m totally for the old-school black and yellow costume. Though I doubt that they use it. (maybe they’ll show her in it at first as Ms. Marvel?)
