It’s rare that one aspect of a game can get me to stop playing entirely, but that’s essentially what happened with Modern Warfare 2 the past few months. I got so sick of being n00b tubed in every game I played without fail, I just said to hell with the whole thing. Combine that with killstreaks that reward camping and akimbo shotgunning freerunners, and these small things just made the game not worth playing.
But according to this rather catchy music video, it might not actually be the n00b tuber’s fault, as it’s just so addicting to get easy kills, they can’t help themselves. Check it out above.
Come on Infinity Ward (err, what’s left of you). You know it’s an issue, you made a damn callsign called “Noob Tuber” for crying out loud.
What an awesome video. I have to say I’m guilty of noob tubing but I totally understand your thoughts on it. As a heads up there is now a bare bones option that allows playing without kill streaks.
I’m totally a n00ber. 99.9% of the reason I do it is because it pisses people off so bad. Yeah, that’s dickish, but at least I’m not calling everyone homos or racial slurs.
MWF2 is the least fun I have ever had with an online shooter. “Hey, that guy’s killed 15 people in a row with his shotguns and run forever perk. Let’s give him a fighter jet!”
Call of Duty’s days are numbered. Reach is going to curb stomp that crap game into irrelevance. And then it’s going to teabag it.
@velovan
Halo sucks. Stop acting like it’s good.
PC MW2s clan servers got rid of the noob tube problem a long time ago. they just kick players who use them, and the game just got much more fun then.
I think games get less fun when they cater to cheap shot tactics. Halo got annoying because when someone has a sniper or plasma sword they are walking death machines. modern warfare rewards your kill streak by giving you more advantage making the game more imbalanced. That’s like letting best runner in a marathon use a bike because he is so good at running. He may enjoy it, but it only makes things frustrating for the rest of the runners.
Valve said in the team fortress 2 commentary they originally wanted to make the game have grenades for each character. but then they quickly found out in player testing the game turned into a grenade lob fest, resulting in cheap kills and the frequent “where did that grenade come from!?!”
I can understand if they want the weapons to be realistic, but it simply subtracts from the fun. At least put in the option to set up a game type without the tube infinity ward.
@ Sam
I’ll absolutely agree that Halo 1-3 aren’t as good as they get credit for. They’re showcases in cliched storytelling, poor weapon balance, repetitive level designs and boomfest gameplay. None of them even approach the brilliance of Half-Life 1 & 2 or Bioshock.
That said, the multiplayer is always a fucking blast to play. Take the expanded and deeper multiplayer plus a revamped Firefight and Co-Op Campaign with XBLA matching plus a freaking massive level editor and you’ve got a Call of Duty killer.
I’m guilty as hell of noob tubing. But to be honest, there are tons of cheap crap things people do in MW2… and the noob tube is about the least bothersome of them.
For instance, how often does someone manage to get into some totally unrealistic place on a map, drop a tactical insertion and snipe endlessly with no real incentive to help their team win an objective game?
Or as others have mentioned, use whichever totally unbalanced weapon-of-the-day is, with infinite ability to run at 30 mph? Absurd.
This doesn’t even address the frustration of all the retards running the Javelin glitch when that was still around.
Or the endless auto ammo glitch where you could fumigate an entire map with the AC-130 in a few seconds.
Or when the akimbo rangers were like shooting dual howitzers?
Or endless supplies of claymores?
Or the endless stream of map glitches that people use to make themselves invulnerable and/or invisible.
Or if we’re looking at all sorts of aggravation… how about the piss-poor matchmaking? Or the camping? Or the BS boosting? Or the constant server problems and dropped games? Or removing party chat on game types so we have to listen to the screaming and rambling of every idiot savage on XBL?
Of all these thing, the m203 bothers me least. It is annoying at times, but I consider it a “well, if it’s that effective, then you should use it too” situation. Yeah, it’s a bit like the triple frag spam problem from MW1, but it’s also a bit like how everyone used to complain about juggernaut in MW1. It never worked THAT well for me, and I don’t think it actually worked that well for anyone else either. People just get frustrated and look for something to point at as another unfair advantage that made them lose.
I traded this shit game in about 3 weeks after release, for all the reasons Paul stated. Knowing these issues are still prevalent, seven months after release reaffirms that I made the right decision. I don’t how, or why, some of my friends still play this game.
MW1 was so much better.
