Celebrating Glorious, Wonderful, Brutal Video Game Violence

As expected, there’s been a lot of talk and debate about the horrific violence in video games. Will impressionable kids become desensitized to violence and, in turn, commit heinous acts of violence against their communities?  And if so, are the creators of the video games to blame?  Of course not.  Video games that are saturated with violence are made for adults, so it’s up to the parents to keep an eye on what their kids are playing.

But enough of stating the obvious.  Personally, I love violence in video games.  And instead of being appalled by it, I think it should be celebrated.  After all, if we can’t escape to video games to become someone else – even if that someone else is a brutal killer – then where else can we undergo a cathartic massacre?

After the jump, enjoy video clips from the most violent video games of all time.  Not for the squeamish.

Gears of War 2

Ninja Gaiden 2 (skip to around 2:10 for the good stuff)

Manhunt

Postal 2

God of War II

Grand Theft Auto 4

Mortal Kombat series

These were the most violent games I could think of.  If there are any other ultra-violent games, let me know in the comments section.  I’m sure there have got to be a few. In the meantime, I’m off to play violent video games, followed by committing savage murders and taking none of the responsibility for it.  It’s the American way!
