2016 has had its ups and downs and a fair share of vicissitudes. We have witnessed the unexpected rise of Donald Trump as the first Reality TV president, a dead dog being cloned into life from its DNA by a British couple, and Leicester City winning the Premier League cup as an underdog after an impressive run. But the year was also iconic when it came to gaming. Better graphics and more captivating story lines combined to provide an enhanced gaming experience. And the video game trailers were nothing short of inspiring, with a select-few taking things to a whole new level. Take a look at the top ten video game trailers of 2016.
Battlefield 1 – Reveal Trailer
The latest major release in the Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 1, was received overwhelmingly. The game is set in World War I and focuses on intense huge battles, intuitive action, and some extremely huge vehicles. Battlefield 1 basically pays tribute to the origin of modern war. Expectedly, the game is divided into multiplayer and single player components, with the former featuring up to 64 players at the same time. The battles take place on the ground, in the air, and over the sea, and involve biplanes, tanks, flame throwers, mustard guns, machine guns, pistols, and even horse mounts. EA DICE claims that single players will be the most significant campaign so far.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – Reveal Trailer
While most of the previous trailers for Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare were centered on the action component of the game, this trailer takes you through the actual story. Your character is Lt. Reyes, who is brought into the limelight after the initial boots of the game on the ground action. You are then promoted to the highest ranking officer onboard the UNSA Retribution spacecraft: the Captain. During the debut of the game’s Comic con panel, it was revealed that the new Call of Duty would feature new settings that allowed players to enjoy different new types of gameplay experiences. What’s more, unlike previous games that used a single frame animated to capture motion, this one uses motion-capture.
Gears of War 4 – ‘Tomorrow’ Trailer
This story trailer connects the Fenix family’s legacy from father to son while providing an ominous glimpse of the menace awaiting. The game is basically a continuation of Gears of War 3, which concluded as Marcus Fenix wondered about the future. The story focuses on two tomorrows: the one with a menacing nightmare (25 years later), and another that Marcus had envisioned. “Tomorrow” features Simon’s hunting cover (from Disturbed) and “The Sound of Silence” by Garfunkel. It also hints on how the new addition to the franchise takes the player back to the dark, cryptic tone of the first classic.
DOOM – ‘Fight Like Hell’ Cinematic Trailer
The new cinematic trailer for the long-awaited first person shooter game “Fight Like Hell” was introduced by id Software and Bethesda Softworks. The trailer shows how the vast Mars wasteland has been conquered by masses of demons, and only a DOOM marine can neutralize the threat to the UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) facility. Your character has access to a 2-barrel shotgun only, with which he uses to fight against all sorts of demons. In the end, he is left severely tattered, but fortunately alive. The game was launched on May 13 for X-Box One, PC, and Play Station 4.
Pokémon Sun & Moon – Starter Reveal Trailer
Pokémon enthusiasts are probably familiar with the likes of Popplio, Litten, and Rowlet. In this new franchise, the characters have all grown up. Rowlet has evolved into Decidueye – an interesting combination of Ghost/Grass. The name seems rather queer, and although it was coined from the term “deciduous”, it has a lot of vowels all jiggled up at the end. Litten has metamorphosed into Incineroar, who has a superb wrestling schtick but looks rather simple and drab. Primarina, on the other hand, has grown from the goofy-looking Popplio everyone loved to make fun of. The trailer also reveals every island’s guardian Pokémon in the Alola region, who all have a special move that can summon a G-Guardian that ultimately reduces an opponent’s health by 75%.
Overwatch – ‘Dragons’ Animated Short
The total number of playable characters in Overwatch is now 21 and the figure is expected to increase in the future. As such, Blizzard has to be creative when introducing every Hero to the players. Some are featured in special Taco Bell editions and others appear in short comic strips. However, the favorites star in the franchise’s high end animated shorts, Hanzo, Genji, and Two lucky heroes are the newest spotlight addition in “Dragons”. The trailer concentrates on filling the heroes’ backstory. The bow & arrow sniper hero in the game, Hanzo, together with his robot ninja brother, Genji, share a complex history that involves betrayal and a quest for redemption.
MLB: The Show ’16 – ‘Get Famous’ Commercial
This game is a continuation of the long running Sony series – MLB 15: The Show. It enhances the already strong foundation with the franchise mode, overall aesthetics, Diamond Dynasty mode, and the road-to- the-show mode all receiving important additions. The most significant aspect of simulation games is the appearance of real-life places and people in the virtual reality. This game improves on the lighting effects that go a long way towards enhancing the general appearance of different materials and the field itself. For instance, various kinds of metals are brighter and the new matte helmets look darker, signifying meticulous attention to detail.
Fallout 4 – Far Harbor Trailer
Since its debut last year, Fallout 4 has received a tremendous update in its content. The Wasteland Workshop has provided fans with new workshop items to help counter a possible robot uprising in the thrilling Automatron. However, it is the next planned expansion referred to as “Far Harbor” that has stirred a lot of excitement. The trailer starts with a boat that is reminiscent of the promotional art approaching a dull seaside town. The creepy little town looks like it’s inhabited by a group of rugged settlers hiding a certain secret that you are supposed to uncover along your journey. The trailer also features new types of enemies, including a somewhat mutated version of an angler fish, a super gigantic and fast-moving sea creature, and waterlogged ghouls.
Fallout 4 – Automatron Trailer
If you are familiar with the exciting experiences of Fallout 4 and are looking for something new, then you should try the recently unveiled Automatron. The game was availed on 22nd March for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and adds fresh content to the internationally renowned game. In particular, players face a new antagonist called “The Mechanist”, who has a horde of evil robots. Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Awakening DLC Trailer
The multimillion dollar franchise, Call of Duty, has received a considerable number of map releases and post-game content over the years. The introduction of Modern Welfare II was a progressive stride in terms of downloadable map purchases, but this ended with the Call of Duty Elite, in which subscribers had access to detailed map guides and weapon stats. The new addition to the series, Awakening, received 4 DLC map packages and a never-seen-before Zombies experience in a WWII setting. The locations include a security VTOL set above the clouds, a construction site just outside Zurich, an isolated water theme park, and a military training facility.
