Comparing Grand Theft Auto IV to V

Well we’ve seen the trailer and debated the lack of a female protagonist, but there’s more to Grand Theft Auto V than that. Namely, we should discuss just how damn good looking this game is.

Game Informer has a series of side by side shots of the old and new engines. I’m not sure how they set up the exact same scene in both games, but it’s a pretty cool effect. Maybe Rockstar did it for them.

Are these both on the same console? One isn’t some PC render? If so, they’re really getting all they possibly can out of the Xbox 360 and PS3. Crazy how they manage to extract every bit of power out of the machine by the time we’re ready for a new console generation. Gallery starts below:

  1. I don’t think they’d go through and intentionally recreate scenes just for comparison screenshots. My money’s on them re-releasing GTA IV on the new engine.

  2. Paul, I’d buy your book just to support a fledgling author, but I’m worried I’ll encounter typographical and grammatical errors which, if you spent just a little time proof reading before posting, would not be a problem.

  3. I didn’t notice how much better it looked compared to 4 until you see side by side screenshots. It feels like they took the car texture and lighting enhancement for the PC version’s ENB mod series and implemented them 😛

    They look like they have done a lot with the gaming I am just hoping for a half decent draw distance on the console and that the PC version is much better optimized when it comes out (6-8 months later) than the horrible job they did with GTA 4 for PC

  5. I popped in GTA4 on ps3 last night after playing LA Noire for a month. (Needed to create some mayhem, since LA Noire has very little of that.) And I was shocked at how bad the graphics for GTA4 were in comparison.

  8. Am I the only one who think GTA’s graphics are not exactly it’s best selling point? They never have been. Granted there is a lot of stuff going on in the world so it can’t fully focus on it. But compare the graphic to other games coming out around that time… or even games out now it’s weak. And they have never managed to make people smile and look happy very well… I imagine that’s why everyone’s frowning all the time.
