10 Breathtaking Planet Earth Video Clips

As the name of our website would imply, we like to write about a lot of things that aren’t exactly based in reality.  It’s not uncommon to find articles or lists featuring Samus Aran, vampires, Inglorious Basterds, the Battleship movie, movie suicides, or movie psychopaths, just to give a few examples.  If you come here often, you get the idea of the type of stuff we like.

The old expression is that truth is often stranger than fiction, and I suppose that could apply to the real and “unreal,” too.  I don’t know about you, but watching a great white shark burst through the surface of the ocean with a seal in its jaws is more awe-inspiring to me than almost all of the video games I’ve ever played.  The savage yet beautiful images of nature in its rawest form are without a doubt sites to behold.  Case in point: Planet Earth.  After the jump, enjoy 10 of the most breathtaking video clips from Planet Earth.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was a zoology major so I tend to really dig stuff like this.  Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.

  1. If I recall correctly, I was really high the first time I saw the birds of paradise dance. I also recall that thing turning its whole body into a dark, ghostly smiley face, at which point I proceeded to trip balls.

  2. Hey, remember when Animal Planet used to have those videos of animals with the music in the background?
Like they had a bunch of killer whale clips with Thin Lizzy’s Boys Are Back in Town..?
    Where I can see those?

  3. @ Tishy

They almost seem alien, don’t they?

I assure you that you’re not alone in enjoying Planet Earth while in an altered state.

    @ Anon

I haven’t seen those…but someone on youtube had some nice Planet Eart/Radiohead mixes…

  4. I love love love Planet Earth. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made (I like it with the British man narrating)

The birds of paradise are awesome, but the slow motion shark is the best. It’s awesome how they show how they did it with the new technology, and how they had to get it right since it takes so long to set up.

Caves was my favorite episode by far, though.

The most memorable animal video was the killer whale clips with Thin Lizzy’s Boys Are Back in Town.

I’ve searched all over the net and can not find it.

The editing to music was spot on and the aggression in the song matched the killer whale attacks.

I remember it above all and would really like to know where to find it.

  6. To Anon and #BMcCj: I´m also looking for this video; some years ago, a spanish TV channel uses this and another 19 similar videos to fill empty spaces between programs: Thin Lizzy and Killer Whales, The Chordettes and Suricata, Eartha Kitt and Swans, etc. The whole serie is impressive: from sharks to vampires to sea lions, and always with a great soundtrack. But it´s also impossible to found: I´ve tried for years… and still trying. So, if anyone of you get some information about where I can find some or all the videos, please post it here: I´ll be doing the same.
    Thanks 🙂

  7. Well, Anita, thanks thanks thanks thanks, hahaha… In fact, it was no so easy; I did register in BBC Motion Gallery, and tried to find the videos writting “animal tracks” in the browser… and no way. So I keep triying, and triying, and at last I found the shortest way to reach the treasure:

First, as you say, register in BBCMG; and then, with your session opened, go straight to this link:

THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH
