In what was an unprecedented move this morning, Sega decided to pull the plug on one of its most beloved characters. As many of you know, Sonic is a character created in the early 90s and earned quick success on Sega’s Genesis system.
Over the last 20 years there have been nearly too many legacies and milestones to list off in a small article like this. But amongst Sonic’s achievements a couple of notable ones have been being the first video game character to be a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a “Walk of Game” induction in 2005, a 2004 award for being the “ultimate gaming hero” and being voted the 10th best video game character of all time in Guinness.
Fans were outraged by the announcement and pledged to never play a Sega game again. Why the little furry guy was axed is still a mystery but in case you guys haven’t noticed it’s April 1st so we had to do something on April Fools.
