What is this “Dusk Form” Lycanroc Everyone’s Talking About?

Fans of everything Pokemon have been waiting with bated breath for the Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. The previews of this game coming out on November 17th on Nintendo 3DS has the gaming community weighing in on a new addition to the Pokemon animal tribe–Dusk Form Lycanroc. If you aren’t caught up on the anime series “Pokemon Sun and Moon” read no further as there will be an evolution in episode 37 that will have everyone talking.

It was predicted that Ash’s Rockruff was due to evolve. The warning signs were there. In previous episodes, Rockruff was really getting aggressive and a bit hard to control. In episode 36 Rockruff balked when Ash told Rowlet to pick up Rockruff and fly. Rockruff disengaged from her grip and the poor bird was sent flying. Rockruff even took on Midday Lycanrock and kicked butt. Ash clearly loves his Rockruff and although he is shocked at some of the Rockruff’s behavior, he seemed determined to accept him for who he is and what he will become, even when Rockruff bites him.

When the strange green light appears and we see it shine in Rockruff’s baby blue eyes we know something amazing is going to happen. There are videos showing fan reactions to Rockruff becoming Dusk Form Lycanroc and the reviews are mostly positive, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eQ896NXuYc. The scene is well done and the color they chose for Dusk Lycanroc reminds one of a sunset glow. This transformation was always Rockruff’s destiny and it’s amazing to see him become this mighty green eyed lycanroc. We will, however, have fond memories of him before the change. It will be interesting to see the new interactions between Ash and Dusk Lycanroc.

There is another camp; however, consisting of members of the Pokemon community that are anything but impressed. They say that the artist just dunked Midday Lycanroc in orange paint and created a new character. This judgment is made by just looking at the image. Fans do as yet know what he will be able to do or even where to find him in Alola. These criticisms don’t take into account that Lycanrocs are a species, like wolves in the real world, and there are only so many variations in the breed. How different can you make them? Dusk Lycanroc does not look pretty or evil–he is somewhat in between. He looks like he could hold his own in any fight but is still beautiful to behold. As he will have Rockruff’s spirit, we can’t imagine him backing down from any danger. There are also rumors that Dusk Lycanroc could be a “mystery gift”. Speculation at this point is running wild on social media and on Youtube.

A fourth Lycanroc has been promised and many say it will be Dawn Lycarnoc to complement the Midnight, Midday and Dusk varieties. Fans take these predictions seriously, and already there is fan art depicting what this new creature will look like. The fan takes on Dusk Lyncanroc may be mixed, but Pokemon enthusiasts will no doubt be lining up to get the pair of games “Pokemon Ultra Sun” and “Pokemon Ultra Moon” the moment they hit the market in November.
