The Many Faces of Johnny Depp
We all know that Johnny Depp is a diverse actor, but ever experienced his entire resume in a few second? Enter: GIFs.
This rather cool art project has Depp dressing up as at least a dozen of his most famous roles. Though his face remains the same, everything else changes around it, and he really is one of the most diverse actors out there. I’d say he isn’t typecast, but that would be ignoring all his pale-faced roles with Tim Burton as of late, so that really wouldn’t be fair.
Out of all of these, which is your favorite? I have to go with Scissorhands and Ed Wood myself. And as commercial as the Pirates movies are, Jack Sparrow truly was a phenomenal creation.
While I love Johnny Depp, & have followed his cinematic career from his 1st starring role in “Cry Baby”, I have to quibble with your designation of him as ‘versatile’. He plays one role: that of the loner, misunderstood but charming once you know him. Whether it’s the soft-hearted rocker of ‘Cry Baby’, the boy-with-scissors-for- hands of ‘Edward Scissorhands’ or his portrayal of Hunter S Thompson in ‘Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas’, every single role he’s played is that character.
Even his Cap’n Jack Sparrow holds true to this formula.
Just sayin’….
Not when you compare him to someone as typecast as Michael Cera or Sandra Bullock…
I don’t know, just because he always plays an outcast doesn’t mean it’s the same outcast. Hunter S. Thompson and Jack Sparrow are the only two of his characters that I can think of that are similar in physicality, voice, and mannerisms. I think he’s extremely versatile, even if it’s from within one archetype.
