Han Solo and Chewbacca Thirty Years Later

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, George Lucas has coerced Harrison Ford to actually acknowledge he was in the series, after years of dodging Star Wars questions saying his stint as Han Solo “was over.”

But now he’s playing along, and therefore we get awesome pictures like this one, where he’s posing with the man inside the Chewbacca suit, Peter Mayhew. To answer your question no, Ford is not a midget, Mayhew is about seven feet tall, and was 7’3″ as his peak during his Chewbacca years.

God, look at Ford. Do you really think he has ANOTHER new Indiana Jones movie in him?

Am I imagining things, or is that a baller-ass lightsaber cane that he’s using?

I guess the wookie crossbow wouldnt look as good in cane form

At the least, Ford should act like he wants to stand next to Mayhew. One has always been nice to the fans and the other just assumed that we would watch him in anything and when he realized we wouldn’t he made a craptastic Indy movie which blew up in his face. Good job.

We met Mayew at comic con a few months ago. That poor guy is torn the hell up! He seemed to be in a lot of pain, but yeah, that is his lightsaber cane. He was using it when we saw him walking. He didn’t say much but actually meeting Chewie was pretty damn cool.

Come on, can you really blame Ford for trying to get out of the shadow of Star Wars though? He is really the only actor from the series that IS known for far more than just being Han Solo. Sure it’s successful and all, but Star Wars was 30 years ago – I’m sure he’s sick of talking about it (not to mention he doesn’t need the money).

Star Wars gave him a start to his career, but it doesn’t define his career. That’s the difference between him and the rest of the cast.

  • Bert

That IS an extremely badass cane too.

  • Jack

    That is a pimpin’ cane.

I think it could be argued that Mark Hamill is also known among us nerds and geeks as being THE voice for Joker and Carrie Fisher is almost as well known for her drug problems and books she has written.

@ Jack – sure, the nerds and geeks know about their other projects, but freaking EVERYONE knows who Harrison Ford is. If you stop Joe Six-pack on the street and ask them to name something Carrie Fisher or Mark Hamill was in other than Star Wars? I bet you get a blank stare.

Ask them the same question about Harrison Ford and I bet they can give you ten starring roles. Hell, you could get more than halfway there just with Indiana Jones and Jack Ryan.
