‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Trailer is Actually Not a Bad Dream

Well the trailer for the Nightmare on Elm Street remake has finally debuted, and it’s a mix of both excellence and typical horror trash, though I can’t but sure which side is going to win out in the end.

The pluses are Jackie Earle Haley as Kruger, although we only get to hear him talk for a grand total of six seconds during the trailer. The rest of the film looks like it has some thoroughly creepy dream sequences, but often mixed with typical hot teenage screams and panicked running, something I couldn’t be more tired of frankly.

Overall, I’m more impressed than I thought I’d be, and honestly I’m just looking forward to seeing a horror movie where the villain actually talks (unlike loveable mute giants Freddy and Michael). I think Haley is going to make the character surreal, it’s just up to the writers to make the rest of it work.

Haley as Kruger is a good choice, and it’s cool to see homages to the bathtub scene and the original “being dragged around the room, including the ceiling” scene…but really, what’s different about this than the older movies? It seems to me the answer is nothing, and for that reason, there’s simply no reason to see it.

  • James

I think it looks awesome up until you actually get to see Freddy’s face.

  • Geez

I think you were thinking of jason when you talking about loveable mute giants

  • To call Freddy a mute giant is quite ignorant. Freddy was always known for the sarcastic, cruel and witty banter he had with his victims.

I think this will actually be darker than the first movie.

I think it is brilliant. The movie actually addresses what happened to the living Freddy Krueger which the original did not (you heard about it but didn’t get to really see it). The voice is perfect. Don’t get me wrong, Robert England was amazing, but I am excited that the face will actually look burned and not like hamburger. Overall I think this will be much creeper than a lot of the originals although I don’t think you can ever top the original…but this one looks good so far!

  • I was absolutely terrified of Freddy when I was a kid back in the 80’s. Re-watching them now, they are pretty cheesy.
I really hope this remake is scary for nostalgic purposes.
