Fantastic Wonder Woman Cosplay Out of Nowhere

Published by under Comics,Images

For as long as I’ve been posting great cosplay galleries, I think this is the first time ever I’ve come across a stand alone Wonder Woman before. For whatever reason, the DC heroine is often overlooked. Perhaps it’s her outdated costume, her stupid lasso or her invisible jet (seriously, just have her fly), but she deserves better.

And better she has, in the form of this truly fantastic series of photos from SuperHero Photography (via GeeksAreSexy). The model is Sarah Scott, who looks like a less butch version of Gina Carano, and the costume(s) are just top notch here. There are a few variants of the traditional get-up, including a sword and shield one I didn’t know existed. These are all so well done, she even makes the original stars and stripes look awesome. Someone should have consulted this costume designer when they were shooting that crappy WW pilot a few months ago. Like, holy crap, how much better are ANY of these costumes than that latex Halloween crap?

Go below to see the full gallery. You’ll be glad you did. Continue Reading »

The Second Life of an Old Nintendo

Published by under Images,Video Games

I know that I’ve been longing for the days of old systems lately.   What can I say?  I have nostalgia for my golden years of mastering the original NES and even some Atari games.   But it’s not like I don’t miss things like Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo.   I’ll even go as far as Nintendo 64.

Speaking of which.   Someone decided to bring Nintendo 64 into the new age of video games.    He managed to transform this entire system into a workable portable Nintendo 64.

Check out the assembly pictures after the jump….

Cosplay Fun at Ottawa Comic Con 2012

Published by under Images

It’s basically Canada’s version of the San Diego Comic Con.   The Ottawa Comic con is no joke.  It’s a pretty huge event by any standards.   Having just taken place over the weekend, we haven’t really seen much coverage here in the U.S. but we definitely felt that it deserved its due.

I can’t say that the cosplayers there did anything special.   And they certainly couldn’t compete with any of our major anime or comic events, but they still held their own.  And for that we gave them a post on this site.

The Cutting Edge of 1995

Published by under Images,Video Games

For as often as we complain about the video games that are out now (and that’s very often, if you spend any time on the internet), sometimes we need to look back on how far we’ve come.

This gaming magazine (from back when Game Informer didn’t own the entire market) shows what the “cutting edge” looked like in 1995. If we saw her today, we’d laugh her all the way back to the virtual goth-punk hole she crawled out of, but at the time? It really was quite revolutionary.

1995 saw the release of Dark Forces, Command and Conquer, Warcraft II and Mortal Kombat 3. Search your memory and the internet and you’ll find those graphics to be about six notches behind our friend here. In fact, if she had shown up in a game, she probably would have been worshiped by young male players. Keep in mind that Tomb Raider didn’t even come out until 1996, and even in out-of-game promotional art, Lara Croft looked like this.

An Arrested Development Lego Set is Anything But a Huge Mistake

Published by under Images,Television

I haven’t played with LEGOs in close to a decade now, but that doesn’t mean I don’t recognize a good set when I see one. This Arrested Development LEGO set is currently up for votes over at LEGO CUUSOO. I have no idea what that stands for.

What happens is that fan made sets posted to the site get voted on, and if something reaches 10K, it gets seriously considered by the LEGO people. With only 900 or so votes at the time I’m writing this, I think LEGO Arrested needs our help. Go to the site and cast your ballot. Or have we all just lost our fan spirit now that we’ve won the war and the show is coming back along with a movie?

Check out a full  gallery of the set below. The stair car alone is something I would buy for my desk.  Continue Reading »

15 Cool Facts About the Human Brain

Published by under Images

Do you ever stop to think about how amazing we actually are?  Like the miracle that is us?  Perhaps I’m just in one of those existential moods today.   Perhaps it’s because I have a newborn on the way.   But seriously folks.   The human body is a pretty amazing thing.   Granted it can get twisted and ugly at times but overall it truly is a miracle.

So when I came across these facts about the human brain I have to say that I was kind of struck at just about all of them.  It’s a truly incredible and surprising thing.   Seriously.

Check out 15 cool facts about the brain after the jump….

Maurice Sendak’s Avengers on Parade

Published by under Images,Movies

From reader Mandy and artist Agarthan comes a combination of the two biggest stories of last week. Avengers broke box office records, and Maurice Sendak, creator of Where the Wild Things Are, passed away.

You wouldn’t think there’d be any overlap between the two, but I’ll be damned if this isn’t a really cool attempt at  merging the franchises. The Avengers have never been more adorable, and I think scepter-holding Stark and SHIELD banner Black Widow are my favorite.

Alright Agarthan, think you have a whole book in you? I’d totally love to see this little brigade have other adventures.

So You Think There’s Less Customization in Diablo 3?

Published by under Images,Video Games

On the surface, if you don’t understand the new skill system of Diablo 3, you might bemoan the fact that the lack of an actual “tree” means there are less choices for you during the game. But as it turns out, each skill has about five or six “glyphs” attached to it, modifying the skill in significant ways, and it also means there are no prereqs to put skill points into a skill you’re never going to use, just to amplify a different skill later on. In short, you character will be able to spam more than one good move at super high levels.

Between this and item crafting at the blacksmith, I’m convinced that the changes made to the game are definitely going to be good. We can’t let pure nostalgia blind us, and make us think that just because something is changed from a classic game we loved, that the new game isn’t going to work. Yes, often games can end up getting worse with subsequent sequels, but I still have faith in Blizzard as a company that takes a long ass time to get things right, and I think Diablo 3 will be no exception.

Unemployed? Have I Got a Job For you

Published by under Images,Video Games

“Hey Steve, how rich are you?”

“Bitch, I’m so rich I pay people to play video games FOR me!”

That’s the gist of this online ad, which offers cash for someone who can level a character for this person in Diablo III. Though on second thought, I’m not sure if RN’s are rolling in dough, and this might be a misplaced use of resources. But really, how much would you have to pay someone to level a Diablo III character for you? $20? $50? Die hard fans are going to be doing it anyway. Might as well get some of the cost of the game back.

I don’t have an actual link to this post, but assuredly the position has been filled as this went viral this weekend. I’ll keep an eye out for any other openings like this, but I somehow doubt there are too many fans out there who won’t be playing the game themselves.

The Ultimate Video Game Squadron

Published by under Images,Video Games

I’ve seen Gary’s Mod responsible for a lot of insane stuff over the years, but nothing quite this…amazing. Through a series of mods, LoneFireWarrior managed to collect the best sci-fi heroes from the current console generation and throw them all together into one badass super squadron.

Master Chief fighting side by side with Samus Aran, Commander Shepard, Isaac Clarke and many, many more is a sight to behold, and this series shows the squad in a variety of both strenuous and peaceful circumstances.

This. This is the Super Smash Bros. cast we need. Screw licensing! Just do it already. Continue Reading »
