Now that Breaking Bad has ended, it’s two biggest stars are going to be fielding offers from anywhere and everywhere as to what they do next. Bryan Cranston is set to play Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman, and Aaron Paul is leading a Need for Speed movie that may be the best or worst thing ever.
Paul is also in talks for a role in Ron Howard’s Dark Tower movie/series, that apparently isn’t as dead as I thought. He’d play gunslinging drug addict, Eddie Dean. I’ve only read a handful of Stephen King books in my time, but I read ALL of the Dark Tower series, and far and away, he’s the most perfect person I can think of for the part. From his interview with AICN:
“I’ve had a ton of meetings on that. I just had a general sit down with Ron Howard, who is a huge fan of the show (Breaking Bad), which is such a crazy thing to even think that Ron Howard even knows who I am. They’re definitely planning on making it. I’m excited. Their goal is to do three films, but also have a television element to it, which will be very interesting. From what I hear, Eddie Dean is a pretty epic, iconic character.”
I’d probably read the books soon there Aaron. Your competition probably has.
I do think the more important role for The Dark Tower is Roland, who was so obviously Clint Eastwood in the novels it’s almost painful the man can’t play the part. Now, I’m thinking Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Jackman, perhaps. And I still have yet to be convinced the books would even make an effective transition to either the big or small screen, but they’d certainly have a better chance with Paul on board.
