Motion capture is starting to become prevalent for more than just body movement in big name games. Now, finally, voice actors are finally getting their actual visages in the games. Don’t believe me? Check out the cast of GTA 5 above. Nearly all the the characters bear more than a passing resemblance to their real life counterparts. I’d say the only exception is Lamar, but perhaps its just the haircut and expression.
What does this mean? Well, when a game like GTA 5 sells $800M worth of copies on the first day, it could turn more voice actors into actual celebrities because they’re now able to be recognized. Even with all their roles, most people still don’t know what Nolan North and Troy Baker look like, but if I saw a real-life Trevor walking down the street, that would be a different story.
Somehow it bothers me that there’s a real life Jimmy De Santa walking around out there, but hopefully he’s only pretending to be a douche for the role.
