Good article. That Mustafar set always blows me away everytime I watch Revenge.

I personally don't have a super hate boner for the prequels, but they did come out at a really weird time in movie history where effects limits were just beginning to evolve. Some of the ballsy decisions to introduce full CGI characters and shoot digitally I still think to this day that is part of the reason why 1 and 2 suffered (not to mention an unlikeable protagonist). I really do like 3 though they kinda started to figure everything out by then, to bad for a lot of fans it was to little too late.

When it comes to the perfect balance of practical effects melding with CGI I still have a harder time finding a better example than Jurassic Park. Which came out 20 years ago by the way. I'm old :(

Like they told me at school when using power point. It should be a support of what are you telling and not overshadow what you're telling. Practical or digital effects are not bad if it helps reinforcing an element of the film.

My personal problem when they overblow in the CGI is the lack of focus of where I am suppose to be seeing, it can become visual noise having hundreds of things happening.

Practical effects may be harder to do but they also have to be more well thought out to make them believable in the context of the film and making actors interact with something real its mostly better.
