"Film criticism is a very legitimate and useful pursuit."

Normally I got to 4chan to read statements that troll-tacular. Thanks for saving me the trip today. 9/10 reviews of anything is just people masturbating on their keyboard. And I say that as somebody who has written well over 400 of them. It's a hobby and a functionally useless one at that. The idea of paying somebody for it is just silly to me. People should be able to form their own opinions, but pro criticism allows them to pretend to have opinions on something without ever experiencing a single second of it for themself. If people took it as what it should be -a way for people to express their personal opinion and invite discussion- reviewing would be fine, but people use the practice to gather proxy opinions and it spreads like a plagiarism virus until you literally can't tell which reviews were even written by people who saw the movie/read the book/played the game/etc. I've even gotten online reviewers to admit they reviewed things they hadn't seen/read/etc before. Ridiculous.

That complaint aside, you are definitely right about the film. Yeah, it was a silly concept, but it was damn entertaining without being Michael Bay stupid or disrespecting the beloved historical figure it portrayed. The problem is, it was reviewed by a bunch of pretentious pricks who think that what they do is actually important as if they must hold the films they praise to a certain level of dignity and smash anything that has something as silly as vampires in it regardless of the entertainment value of said film. It wasn't a great film, but it was a fun and unique one that doesn't deserve the flack it's received.
